Thanks for the great company tonight guys.

Looking sooooooooooooo much forward to a coffee and blueberry muffin in bed tomorrow morning (well, at the weekends anything before 2pm counts as 'morning' for me really!) feeling completely UNHANGOVERED and catching up on the posts on the laptop (sorry if that sounds sad but a long lie and catching up on everything is such a treat at the weekend).

Nightie night, sleep tight, don't let the bugs bite.
  • As I can't do jokes, thought that I would do a list for the thread..

This is from "The Alcoholic and the help he needs" published 1972
A tentative chart of alcohol addiction.

It reflects my experience of the downward spiral very closely.

    Occasional relief drinking.
    Heavy habitual (or occupational) drinking.
    Constant relief drinking commences.
    Increase in alcohol tolerance.
    Onset of memory blackouts.
    Increasing dependence on alcohol.
    Surreptitious drinking.
    Repeated "under influence" driving.
    Urgency of first drinks.
    Feelings of guilt about drinking.
    Unable to discuss problem.
    Memory blackouts increase.
Decrease of ability to stop drinking when others do (Loss of control)
    Drinking bolstered with excuses.
    Grandoise and aggressive behaviour
    Persistent remorse.
    Efforts to control fail repeatedly.
    Promises and resolutions fail.
    Tries geographical escapes.
    Loss of interest in others.
    Family and friends avoided.
    Work and money troubles.
    Unreasonable resentment.
    Neglect of food.
    Loss of ordinary willpower.
    Tremors and early morning drinks.
    Decrease in alcohol tolerance.
    Physical deterioration.
    Onset of lengthy intoxication.
    Moral deterioration.
    Impaired thinking.
    Indefinable fears.
Drinking with people from a lower social class.
    Physical and mental damage.
    Unable to initiate action.
    Obsession with drinking.
    Vague spiritual desires.
    All alibis exhausted.
    Complete defeat admitted.

Development period for addiction can be between 2 to 25 years.
    Average 10 - 15 years.
    Living Sober.

Some methods A.A. members have used for not drinking.

Thanks so much 40SM for keeping the scores this month. :A

I'm allowing myself my Saturday night wine tomorrow with Mr PIR, but WILL NOT OVERDO IT. Kudzu at the ready ... I'm sure that it helps with the cravings and temptations.

Meant to have logged off by now, but just wanted to say, thanks RA for that list, I've read them all and can honestly honestly say that there are only 2 of those that haven't happened to me, and I read it 3 times to make sure! That is scary scary stuff!! Wished I had that list when I thought 'it'd be okay to have 1 or 2' earlier!

ETA: it took me 16 years by the way

Oh yes brilliant that's right guys. I won't have a hangover tomorrow morning. Also I have saved at least £5 today and I think being AF will help with my weightloss. All fab reasons to not give in tonight. The local off licence is closed anyway now so I couldn't drink even if I wanted to. I think I will have some more milk thistle before bed.

My halo is getting very heavy today.:D:p

    Night night all!
