The giving up/cutting down alcohol support thread! Part 3

Hi all- I 'treated' myself to a new hair dye yesterday ready for a job interview I had this morning- unfortunately I managed to dye my ears bright red too which meant I looked pretty ridiculous at the interview this morning- oh well, it was still a treat, sort of.
I too have lots more time now, which can be difficult to manage- I think a lot of my drinking was down to boredom and too much time on my hands at home on my own- I think I might do a course or an evening class so I've got something to keep me distracted.
Hope everyone is OK today.0 -
115K, I've had many a LFTs and all come back normal so far, last one was this time last year. My doc is a funny bloke (haha and perculiar), I first went to him in 2001 and told him I had a drink problem, he said 'just don't buy it then you won't drink it', didn't give me any other advice at all. I was pretty p!ssed off to say the least. Went on a couple more years and saw him again and he suggested I rang drinkline which I did and ended up at the drug and alcohol place for years worth of counselling. Now when I go to him, either for me or the kids, he always asks after my drinking and asks how much I drink. When I tell him he says that I'd drink him under the table and can't understand how I can drink a 'mans' drink in such quantities. I reckon he's seen an increase in alcohol abuse because he's starting to become a little more sympathetic, maybe he's been on a course
Last time I saw him about my drinking last year he prescribed me diazepam, but I didn't take them because I don't want to substitute my drinking with something else, plus they make me feel out of it and I don't like feeling out of control (says the girl that drinks to black out every night ).
If you're not happy with the care you are getting from your GP, is there another one you can see a the same surgery (mine is a one man band), otherwise contact your local drug and alcohol service for a more specialised treatment.
Most drinkers generally look healthy and are young, I remember my first group therapy session, I was nervous and was expecting to see a load of down and outs and tramps sat in the room.....there wasn't one! They were all healthy looking, the majority were young and most of them worked full time and had families. You will see the same at an AA meeting. Lol, what great advice I don't think. Brilliant in it's simplicity.:D
I know that drinkers come in all shapes and sizes, I just think my GP seemed to think I'm exaggerating or summat.

Mine does too, I think that's why he keeps asking me how much I drink cos he doesn't believe me :rotfl:
I always feel really patronised by doctors. I do feel like they take men with drinking problems more seriously than women to be honest. Maybe it is changing with more women binge drinking nowadays.
I told one GP how much I drank but he didn't even seem to be listening to me he was just looking at his screen.:mad: I really hate going to the doctor anyway.HOUSE MOVE FUND £16,000/ £19,000

I've just found out my doc's on holiday for a month and there's a locum on instead. Which means I'm going to have to explain WHY I want a liver function test :undecidedDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0
