  • London_guy, I’m on day 11 of being AF and yesterday I was quite down and depressed although today I’m OK again. I have also noticed the tiredness associated with going AF and I had a late night/early start before yesterday so maybe that combined to make me feel down. If you feel depressed for an extended period of days then maybe go to your GP. A few days ago I felt very anxious but this passed after about an hour. Does anyone else get anxiety after going AF?

I’m one of the many lurkers and this is my first post :-)

Hello everyone and all new people

Well I am now on 7 but this is only really down to me having been so ill over the last week

I have lost half a stone and alcohol has been the last thing on my mind tbh, I cant remember ever being so ill as to not want a glass of wine.
Docs seem to be getting to bottom of it now and am on some more antibiotics and have got an appointment being sent me from the hospital for some scans on my pelvis.Touch wood I feel marginally better today but am still resting and generally being a bit pathetic!
So I will reach my target no problem just wondering if this still counts?:D
Last night I could not get to sleep at all and just lay there till 3 ish, of course when the alarm went off at 7.30 I could have slept then!Hubby commented it was probably lack of red wine that made me not be able to sleep.....hmmmm think he had a point!
    Stroppy xx

    :hello:

Hi All! (including cardboard chewer and all serial lurkers!)

Just catching up and soaking up all your ideas (old soak?).

Thanks for theory of 'urge surfing' fedup. It's good to have a label for what I do at 6 p.m. every evening.

London Guy, I still feel 'ooh good I can drink' on my non-AF days. The depression kicks in when I think 'oh no I can't drink' on the AF ones!! Seriously, lots of us felt down back in Jan/Feb but then it could have been a bit of SAD. I think it comes from having to really search your thinking/behaviours for why we still want to drink when there are so few good reasons. I still have my 'sod it' moments but fortunately they don't last. I just jump on my surfboard!!

Well done fluffy on reaching your target and stroppy of course all your days count. They all count!! Hope you'll feel better soon.

I've got a week's holiday planned in June so my target will be low. I'm not going to be AF on holiday but I'm determined to jump back on the wagon when it's over. I remember where I went wrong last year: did 2.5 months then had a big birthday/Easter holiday and never went back. That's not happening this year, I'm in it for the long haul! AF planned today.

Well done maman and good thinking about your holiday. I was the same when I had a week away last month. I knew I could handle drinking on holiday so long as I got straight back into my routine when I got back home - and I did :j
It would have been easy to slip back into my old habits & carry on drinking every night, but when you have come this far you don't want to let yourself down.

I know you will be the same, maman :j

Welcome cardboard chewer from a fellow newbie!

Well, the good news is I've arranged a bit of counselling to help me through which is great. Remembered we can have it free through my workplace.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Off out for the day now so will grab some 5-HTP and hopefully that will help too.

Then off out for a meal tonight minus the usual wine.

    Have a good day all.

Welcome fellow newbies and :hello: to the lurkers

Wow, so many posts to catch up on :j
Budget Babe, how do you manage to keep track of all our AF days? Do you have a list beside you when you read this thread and add on when you come across an AF listing? btw, I'm on 2 AF days but sadly not 3.

I managed to get home without going to the supermarket last night and even went out for a run as the rain miraculously stopped and the sun came out. The run was dreadful though, more like a lumbering stagger through treacle-laden air than the comfortable 3 miles I'm used to. And that was enough to send me down to the shop for the gin :o I did try to surf the urge but I failed

On the plus side I only had one instead of 2 or 3 so I have cut back and I will not beat myself up over this. But tonight is likely to be tough as a friend is coming round for tea and will bring wine with her.

I will probably be back on towards the end of the day asking for support and strength. Sorry, I seem to be taking a lot of support and not giving much back. I will try more I promise.

hope everyone has a lovely day
