Sorry to gatecrash the thread, have lurked and thanked for a long time.

I just wanted to say to midnight raven, I would be so gutted. But if they want a american diner, down tools and say that they can do the cooking then!

Bibbitybob - just wanted to say your hallway is fab - what a fantastic transformation from the drab brown walls - I love the mirrors on the wall (may have to steal that one also if you don't mind!)

i have dreamed of this kitchen extension for soooooooo long now
its going to have a purpose built craft area for me and everything

now i can make that look shabby chic with storage etc
but that doesnt ft in with this american diner thing

i stood lovingly stroking my pot hanging thingy in its box, looking quite pathetic

    nothing, not a dickie bird
I've just told my OH about your kitchen and his answer was that your OH is meddling in things that are none of his business and should keep his nose out! :D He said even if I painted our kitchen flourescent green with yellow dots he wouldn't dare say anything because I'm the one who spends most time in there.

On a serious note though, a complete re-fit should last you many, many years, will an American diner seem so appealing when the kids have left home and you're both pensioners?

And I also agree that it has nothing to do with the kids how it's decorated, they're not paying for it! Very clever of your OH to get them onboard though, give them a choice of shabby chic or American diner, guess which most kids would go for?

I suggest you down tools immediately. When anyone asks what is for tea just shrug. "I don't know, I don't have a kitchen, do I?"
I agree that there has to be some compromise in life but it's so frustrating when you have worked so hard towards something and the rest of the family over rules you. I would cry. Hmm, maybe you should?
I hope it all works out for you.

I'm currently half-way through the thread but had to reply now because I've got too many ideas swarming around my head and I need to let them out. I'm currently painting various photo frames in a vintage white colour so I can make a shabby chic photo frame wall, they're all mismatched and different shapes and textures, hope it looks good when I'm done.

I've also been sending away for fabric samples in CK and LA type fabrics from curtain and upholstery websites to make a shabby patchwork throw for the sofa, someone had the great idea of using tea towels so thanks for that, I would have never of thought of it! Sure I've seen some shabby-style tea towels in Home Bargains, I bought a cute cupcake oven glove from there and they had that print and another nice vintagey type print too so will have to drop by and have a look.

How amazing are all the dressers people have done?! We currently have an awful orange pine dresser in our living room which I would absolutely love to paint a vintage cream colour but it was given to us by our housemate's mam when we moved in so it's technically his :( I'm hoping that when we move house at the end of the year he'll let us keep it as it's not very manly!

A couple of my recent finds: a gorgeous old metal cookery book stand which I got for £5 from our local market which is half normal market stalls and half car boot sale - IMG_0320.jpg

Plus these lovely birds from Wilkinsons which look so cute as a pair: http://www.wilkinsonplus.com/Co-ordinating-Accessories/Wilko-Enchant-Bird-Ceramic-Cream-Small/invt/0274796

Thanks for all the wonderful inspiration! I'm sure I'll be back to reply again when I finish reading this thread, and then I have all of the old thread to read too!

Midnightraven...I would totally lose the plot on this and I assure you it is not a pleasant sight to behold when I lose the plot! I would be gutted if OH 'overruled' my wishes, think an all out strike might be the only remedy
