    i LOVE the chair!!!:j

we will only be in this house for another 18 month or so
then we have the last 2 going to uni
    well i say going
we will be the ones moving, and they will be staying here

OH has his own building company, so our house is changed more often than some people change their sheets:D

the reason its being changed now is one has already gone to uni, but further afield so we have room to extend now

common sense tells me the teens would love to be left with a diner
my heart says i have waited so long and have so many lovely things and OH will be happy to change it when we move

whatever is done, it wont be long term as far as OH & i are concerned
and if i have MY kitchen, everything will be able to be taken away with us
if we have a diner, all my things can be stored for (yet) another 18 months

    again

    **sigh**

Only you can decide which option to go with but if you'd only have to wait another 18 months it might not be so bad.

Whether you can live with an American diner in the meantime is another matter though! If you don't mind it that much you could use it as major leverage (ahem, bribery) with kids and OH. Me? I'd be out buying more shabby chic and shirking cooking duties:D and I'd insist on a pink Smeg fridge - just because!

Just curious - are you building your new house or are you house hunting? You could end up with the best kitchen ever!
I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

Ah so a little compromise now may get you exactly what you want-need in your new forever home.
Although the overall effect won't be shabby chic, you could have some lovely 50's retro chic to soften the blow for 18 months.
Good luck & don't forget lots of pics when ot's all done.

we're not sure what route to take on a new house
OH takes old buildings and renovates & restores
but he loves the flexibility/insulating/costs of new builds
its been a long time dreaming, and now the children are grown its our time now

that kitchen will be what i want it to be, i have no doubts
hence my flexibility on this one, whats another 18 months

as long as i have room to craft, i shall be all righty
i can have my throws and quilts complete then

If it's only for 18 months then that puts a different slant on things. As you say the kids would prefer to be left the diner so I'd probably compromise and let them have that but only under the complete understanding that you get full control over the kitchen in the new house.

There's some very nice retro things like Kitchen aid mixers, smeg fridges and scales that you could have in the diner but take with you for your shabby chic kitchen. ;)

Hi everyone - new to this thread!
Inspired by you all, I have revamped a horrible orange pine chest of drawers and I'm delighted with it. However I need a bit of advice from you furniture painters. I have sanded, 1 coat of primer and 2 of acrylic eggshell. Should I put some sort of protective top coat on the painted surfaces - if so what? The drawers are well used in the hall for hats and gloves, dog leads, etc. I would hate them to get ruined after my hard work!!

  • I've just finished making a set of curtains from the Tesco floral duvet set that was posted here on the Grabbit board. I bought 4 sets @ £1.95 each!! 2 sets for a pair of curtains, and 2 sets to make a double out of (as they came single only).

Now I have a lovely set of curtains to match the bed set :) I will try and post photos soon, I'm so pleased :)

I've spent all week redecorating my bedroom 'shabby chic' to match these! lol but it was such a bargain!! :D x
