I've moved away from shabby chic slightly and moved towards mid century modern/retro style. I'm not going all out retro, just a few pieces here and there that will hopefully go with existing furniture.

We needed a new coffee table and I remembered my MIL had a g-plan oval glass topped one. She never throws anything out and got it down from her loft for me. She said one day we will have to go through the loft and see what we want!

Anyone else into this kind of style?

I love freecycle - have given away lots of things which I am sure went to good homes. I've only received one thing - a beautiful gold boudoir style mirror. I was so shocked at how lovely it was I asked the woman if she was sure she wanted to give it away. She laughed and said I was more than welcome to it as she hated it! :rotfl:

It is such a great site, saving things from landfill and finding them happy new homes.

tiff - I am into a mixture of styles (including modern/art deco/retro/antique), but I do love shabby chic the most as it is so comforting and pretty. :)

EagerLearner - thanks for the eBay tips!

I've just read a sign on the front of my local Ethel Austins that they and Au Naturale (apparently both owned by the same company) have gone into administration!

There might be some bargains to be had?!

I always liked having a nosey round Au Naturale and I thought Ethel Austins was doing well after their revamp - obviously not :(

  • I was thinking to buy a nice notebook to use as a household log, ie, note anytime anything breaks or gets replaced/ work done etc, so that when we come to sell we have an immediate log of what buyers might want to know dates wise..
Any recommendations from a shop online that might do pretty notebooks in a shabby style? Rustic Angels have some but a bit pricey at £9.95 plus postage...

I would check amazon and look at the cath kidston ones. They are lovely and you can get them with free delivery.

I have finally done my wallpaper. The room isn't totally finished yet but here is a pic of it so far.... I'm going out today to buy the soft furnishings! I'm pretty proud for my first try!

    Hello all

Ive just bought a beautiful shabby chic wrought iron cookbook stand for the kitchen on eBay. I had been watching it and had seen similar ones go for £20, I got it for £8! Woo!

eBay? Sorry, I am crap at knowing where to go for nice (but cheap) stationery and most of my fab notebook finds have come from there or charity shops! I would have automatically suggested RA but it is quite expensive...

You can buy a notebook cheaply enough but if you want to be really MS cover it yourself in a wallpaper sample or piece of fabric. You could ask wssla00 for a piece of her lovely wallpaper:D
