I too have a writing bureau but in horrible 1960's finish - have been lurking here for quite a while and would love to have a go at painting it - however what to do with the inside - mine has about 6 compartments. There are also 3 drawers underneath. Would love to do something with it.

Again like you I am worried I will mess it up, on the other hand, it is just sitting in spare room doing nothing right now!

I have an old oak bureau that I had planned to paint but decided I like the wood too much. I think it adds character and is great for hiding all the stuff we used to have on a desk in the dining room.

Dont be scared to paint your dresser, I bought one to paint although I got my step dad to do it. I dont think you can go wrong really, any mistakes can be sanded back and painted over.

Hi again - I borrowed some good books from the library and thought some of you may like them:

Vintage Crafts - mainly sewing projects like laundry bags, child's play tent, cushions etc all suitable for beginners - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cabbages-Roses-Vintage-Charming-Projects/dp/1904991122/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278876152&sr=8-4

Doing Up Old Junk - shows some different furniture projects - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doing-Up-Old-Junk-Furnishings/dp/1853913855/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1278876321&sr=1-2

They may be useful for anybody looking for inspiration for their projects. :D

Well ladies this thread has fairly charged along! Lovely transformations that you've been doing.
Sorry for those that missed out on bargains, but I'm sure that one will come along for you (even tho its jolly annoying at the time:mad:)
Jennishrew; The colours in the bunting are lovely, makes a change from blue and pink (although I'm a sucker for those colours as well) Bargain mirror as well and its a biggun :T

I want a car boot........ boo hiss not fair. These bargains you lot get are enough to make me stamp my feet :D

Queenbee what a good idea for the sewing box, a gardening box. I would love one, keep all my gardening gear in one place instead of here, there and everywhere.:T

Keep posting pictures they are all lovely and I was so inspired by all the busy, busy people, that I not only did the hallway but my little porch has had a makeover as well. :T

It's a posh kind of blind that on the other side has some very complicated pulley system that ruches the whole thing up and the bottom falls in curvey waves, so perfect and the right size for my window. She did tell me the name of the blind and the posh sounding shop it was from but I forgot! She asked for £5 and I was so happy that I didn't even haggle. I can't wait to get them up and lose the beige ones we have at the moment!

SDC13521.jpg?t=1278857424This James Kent "Old Foley" pot was 20p, it looks lovely on my dressing table.

And my 99p headboard which I plan to spray.

These little thingymajigs were for hanging in the wardrobe with some smellies in it. But they are hanging on my bedposts as I thought they were too pretty to hide away. I did them when I was having an embroidery surge, which I need to get back again....someday. They were done quite a while ago, so showing signs of wear and tear, well it adds to the shabby part of chic :o The colours are much brighter than shown and done on a silky material.

Oh pennib, they are brilliant, they should never be hidden away in a wardrobe!
Off to try and work out what this blind is and google Danemis suggestion!

Does anyone here do silk ribbon embroidery? I have a book on it and I just love the flowers you can do with it, but when I tried to find the ribbon it was really expensive. I keep trying ebay to see if anyone is selling their stash but not had any luck.
