Can't wait to see pics of your bargains. You don't want another table do you? I've Freecycled the table from the table and chairs I bought a couple of weeks ago and there have been no takers. Normally the item is gone within an hour. Anyone want a pine table in need of some SC love?

where are you - anywhere near lincs?????

  • Well I went to my first Car Boot in 5 years this morning I spent the princely sum of 10p on yet another book. I don't think I have the killer instinct that all you seem to have - I did see a chair that I thought I could repaint and would look pretty but couldn't think of anywhere that it would go so left it.
I now have yet another book but still no bookcase, there were none at the CB, no decent furniture CS around here and I'm fed up of waiting for one to appear on freecycle (in the last 3 months there has been 1 which I was too slow to get). Saw a nice one in TKMaxx the other day but it was £149  so OH said I couldn't have it :(
Anyone have any ideas of where else I can try?

Oh I do wish I could do that - our house is full to bursting with things I don't have a place for but couldn't resist (so much so that OH has to climb over a chair to get into bed as there is nowhere else to put it). Serious decluttering needed. Must say no. Must say no, Must say no.

On the bookcase front, I've found Ikea very good - their cheapest at the mo is only £17.99.

If you want something more sturdy and long lasting I can highly recommend the Billy one, we've had ours for years, they are holding tons of large books and haven't sagged or wobbled at all. We also have a couple of these but with shelves all the way down instead of the doors which we have painted in string eggshell and they look lovely. They are solid wood and will last for years, very well worth the money.
Oh dear, here we go again.

You can get great bargains on Ebay if you're prepared to wait for the right thing, I set up a search that notifies me each day of new items. You can then watch them, quite often things sell really cheaply. I got a retro chest of 3 drawers on legs for £6, a pine shelf for on the wall for £1 and two pine tables for £2. Just a thought if you havent already thought of Ebay. Also your local free ads newspaper, we have one called Trade It.

  • I'm going to suggest going to the auctions again! You can get all sorts of furniture from them, not just antiques. I went to one yesterday and it had house clearance stuff, furniture, electricals, bikes, mirrors, etc. Two big mirrors with ornate frames went for £7 for the pair. I would have I'd but I didnt have a number at the time :(

I had a great time at the Boot Sale today, found the perfect solution to my bedroom curtain problem...

It's a posh kind of blind that on the other side has some very complicated pulley system that ruches the whole thing up and the bottom falls in curvey waves, so perfect and the right size for my window. She did tell me the name of the blind and the posh sounding shop it was from but I forgot! She asked for £5 and I was so happy that I didn't even haggle. I can't wait to get them up and lose the beige ones we have at the moment!

SDC13521.jpg?t=1278857424This James Kent "Old Foley" pot was 20p, it looks lovely on my dressing table.

And my 99p headboard which I plan to spray.

Hi all, im a longtime lurker, this is my first post. I was wondering if anyone has bought a writing bureaux (sp?) I love them and they remind me of my Papa as he had one for years. Ive seen a few lovley bargains on ebay but I think my oh will kill me as our house is also full to bursting. Im also not sure if it will actually go in my house or am I just being sentimental?

Im also trying to decide whether to paint my lovley welsh dresser I got from ebay for £45. Its Durham Pine, and a lovely colour but it has a few scratches on it. I do like them painted white/cream but im worried ill mess it up.
