Can I ask - has anyone painted any garden furniture - we have all wooden tables and chairs and a bench - and although they are only a couple of years old - they are getting small splits in them and the paint is disintegrating on them - what do I need to do - is it just a bit of a light sand to give it a key or do I need to really sand right down and which paint is best - anyone done it???? Thanks in advance

danemi1 - nice haul! I bought a wooden stool today too, but just the normal 4-legged kind. I have great plans for it which I will reveal tomorrow when I post a pic. We have had an old iron propping our lounge door open for about 20 years - we found it in the loft of a house we moved into and painted it blue to match the decor at the time. 2 houses and several colour schemes later it's still blue, and your find has given me a shove so I'm going to paint it burgundy tomorrow. Sorry, can't help with the garden furniture query, but I'm sure there are loads of things out there you could use - I expect someone will be along with a recommendation in a mo.

pennib - what a fantastic artistic talent you have. I so wish I could paint like that. I painted a green man on our fireplace a few years ago and he's still there, but he's not in the same league as yours!
Oh dear, here we go again.

went to the car boot sale - it was so windy it was whipping all the dust up something terrible - stinging your eyes and legs and from a distance looked like something out of a western..we gave it up as a bad job and went into the old H blocks at WHat used to be RAf Hemswell

We should have a Hemswell mini meet :D I've not been for a while, not even to local ones as trying to clear out rather than buy before the move, but once I've got my garage there'll be no stopping me :j

Thanks everyone.:) Thats a sturdy looking stool, waiting in anticipation to see the transformation. Good idea with the iron as a door stop, the new ones just dont cut the biscuit do they :rotfl:

hi i did this to mine last year. i sanded very lightly over the table and use a garden fence type paint. i gave it two or three coats in dark oak. it was the horrible orange type wood colour before and i wanted to make sure it didn't come through. worked really well and looks really nice.
