    Hi,
Do you all use primer before painting your wooden furniture and can anyone recommend a make or are the all fairly similar?
I'm wanting to paint up a dresser which will probably get a fair bit of ware so need a strong finish.

Some lovely painting going on here. Wonder what our g'parents would think of their basic war furniture turning into something outstanding.

Kate83. You need primer when it's bare wood. I use the one that you can wash the brushes out with water. (the other is with spirits yuk) I think that they are basically the same. A lot of people sand back down to the bare wood, I use esp which is a liquid sandpaper (and cheating!)but it does the job for what I want it for. The main thing to remember is each coat of paint allow to dry thoroughly......no you musn't be impatient, I should follow my own advice!

pennib, that is brilliant. I'm not surprised you couldn't cover it up. I'm jealous of people who can paint and draw. With me there seems to be some kind of block between head and hand.

What a talent, Pennib. It's really lovely. Not surprised you couldn't cover it up. I'd love to be able to draw/paint, but it'a always evaded me, and now even in my 40s, I'm barely past the stick-men stage :(

natc this is how you post pics:

Step 1: On flickr, on your photo, if you click "All Sizes" (just above the photo), it will take you to a page where you can select different sizes.

Step 2: Click on "Medium" Which will take you to about the right size photo to put on this board.

Step 3: Now, if you scroll to the bottom of that page, there should be a box with a title "2. Grab the photo's URL:" (it's the second box)... copy what's in the box below this title... it will looks something like this:http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4062/...d07aa20441.jpg

Step 4: Now come back to the MSE forum... Go to the "Quick Reply" box at the bottom of THIS page

Step 5: There should be lots of icons just above where you type... it has ones that look like B (for bold) a slanted I (for Italics), a U with an underline, and so on.

Step 6: Amongst those icons, there is a yellow-ish box, 7th one from the left... It's between an Earth with two link chains, and a speach bubble... see it? - it's suppose to have a mountain and a sun, but it's not the best image of them. Click on that icon

Step 7: Should bring up the box asking for the image URL. Paste the link into there & click ok ...

Hi there, and thanks to all who have posted back, really appreciate it. I will do the Flikr or photobucket thing, never used it before so that will be another learning curve :)

Is there no option to just post a pic you save on PC to the post? Or is that too simple its not an option?! LOL :rotfl:

Wow, you've all had a very chatty productive weekend. I'm just back from a wonderful couple of days camping, such good weather and a beautiful site, can't wait to go back.
Loving the magazine rack, table, runner, and that painting above the mirror is so clever.
