Danemi1-Im about to do my dining room chairs too. Its the first time Ive tried it. Did you find it easy or was a bit of a struggle as it sounds like its taken a while?
Do you just cut out the required shape and staple to the back or is there something else to it?
I dont want to mess it up as pushed the boat out and bought some posh fabric from Laura Ashley...
Hya Hun
Sorry so late in coming on to post - crazy whirl on Mondays - get kids sorted after tea - Mum was here today for her meal - hubby in nearly two hours later for his - then I run craft club at 8 - they have just gone and so here I am and breathe!!! lol
You can see why its taken me two weeks to do my first chair - lord only knows when I will get all four done - hopefully before the start of the school hols - lol
Anyway I took the seat pad off, gave the wood a rough sanding all over just to give it a key then cleaned it down with slightly damp cloth and left for half hour in the sunlight to dry off and then using farrow and ball paint in dimity gave it a first coat and let dry - next day gave it a light sand all over and I mean light just enough for a key did this until they had had 3 coats (giggling now as I caught two keys and it said 34 coats - wow can you imagine) anyway gave that all time to dry off and then got my sanding block and gave it a rub over places like the corners and at sides - down on the feet - generally a wee bit all over enough to reveal the original wood (just slightly) think this is a matter of taste - reveal as much as you want - being a novice I was a bit shy at first then again damp clothed it to remove dust and left half hour - then out came the varnish - after seeking advice on here I went for a matt varnish and have now given it two coats - then off to dunhelm for fabric - for my four chairs I got 1 1/2 metres of fabric - to be honest I took my chair in and asked their advice as to how much I needed - yep walked in there clutching said chair - sanded, painted and varnished - I wanted to be sure that the fabric I had seen would look ok on the chair itself. Its too dark now but I will take a piccie and upload this week some time if you dont mind - good luck with yours - let us know how you get on0 -

I have 2 of them :j, both came from freecycle at different times & 1 had a stool as well. When I get round to recovering them I will post before & after pics. I absolutely love them.
It might well be worth trying your freecycle, one was advertised a couple of times before I asked if I could very pretty please have it. It seems that not everyone wants projects. I need to get a step by step guide on how to reupholster.
I have the great idea of patchwork, I have several pashminas & some velvet scarves & table runners of various colours, but am a little scared that it will be too difficult & I'll end up with 2 useless chairs.
Are you anywhere near Essex, if so this one is gorgeous http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Beautiful-Cream-Georgian-Wingback-Armchair-No-Reserve-/150458969801?cmd=ViewItem&pt=SR_Home_Garden_LivingRoom_Armchairs_SR&hash=item23080daec9

Morning Girls.
Well I've been busy painting the blanket box! This post is going to be a bit pic heavy, if it's too much just let me know and I will just post links instead.
Here are before and after pic's.
The paint looks a little patchy on the photo but it isn't really!
I like how its turned out, but I changed the old seat padding to foam and think the seat is a bit high now! I may change it back and use thicker fabric to cover.
I also bought an old telephone table from the cs on the weekend. I thought £25 was reasonable until I just read starlite's post about paying £10! You lot are to blame for my new shabby purchases!:rotfl: I seem to have the bug now lol!
The telephone table will be going off white, not sure which paint or colour yet. I'm supposed to be decorating and making things for my dd's room this week so the table will have to wait a little while.
There have been some lovely things posted this week, the tea set is beautiful.
Hart ~ Glad to see the coasters done, they are fab!:T0 -
The blanket box is beautiful, I like the thicker seat, did you do the patchwork yourself?
I love it when people post pictures rather than links as my laptop runs sooooo slowly that opening another window often crashes it!
Can't wait to see the telephone table, I'd love one if we had space.0 -

Thank you vicki. The patchwork is actually a printed duvet cover lol! I don't have the patience for patchwork.0 -
