Thanks to all for your replies. Am I being a bit slow here-do you mean that you use a normal paper stapler? Will that attach material to the undersides of seats? (As you can tell I'm a complete novice).

No they don't Emu they mean something like *THIS* here. If you go to your nearest DIY shop and ask them about staplers to do the jobs you fancy doing they should be able to help you work out what your requirements would be. The link I added is an example and not a recommendation!

My staple gun is from Lidl and it looks like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-56027-staple-gun-tacker/dp/B0001K9W9Y/ref=sr_1_1/279-7922242-6236017?ie=UTF8&s=diy&qid=1276931407&sr=8-1

Very easy to use. Depending on what you are stapling into, you may need to use a hammer to finish off get the staples all the way into the wooden part.

Wilkinsons do a great staple gun for about £7, it's very sturdy.

I brought a dresser yesterday...(it's going to be delivered on Monday :j)...problem is I have no where to put it  It's a corner one and it's really, really pretty and was just being put on display in a chairty shop for £35...I couldn't not buy it and now need to think about moving everything around to try and fit it in.

Hi there - long term lurker of this lovely thread checking in...

Just would like to say that I finally invested in an electric staple gun & it was well worth the money. No more hammering in the staples that hadn't quite gone in far enough and my hands didn't ache as they had after using the other staple gun. I think I bought it from B&Q.

I second this. I had a string of manual ones that were hard work and didn't last long, but the electric one has lasted really well and makes life a lot easier. It's a nail gun as well which has been useful a few times.

They are more expensive than the manual ones but I've never regretted the investment and would buy another if it died today.
Oh dear, here we go again.

My kitchen makeover is going really well. I need to buy more sandpaper though, it's hard work but every little bit I paint makes it look so much brighter and spacious.

I treated myself to some pretty pastlel utensils and mixing bowls from Wilkinsons to motivate me to finish.
