Thank you all for your ideas. It is very hard having had nothing for three years (my other daughter and I moved into a womens refuge - Long story!!) and now having all the childhood memories of my daughters and cards I sent/recd. I will look out for the 3D photos and I think I will make a collage of cards and photos I could also use some of the insides of cards if that makes sense.

Coming on here always makes me smile:jGod bless you all it means a lot to me. Keep up the good work. love x

These sound like beautiful ideas. It will be wonderful and moving for you and your daughter to see your old things, I hope they will hold more happy memories than sad ones.

    Hello All,

I'm still reading this thread and the old shabby chic thread from the beginning so it will take me a while to catch up!

    You lot are so inspiring!:T

Can I ask for some advice please? I am thinking of buying this bathroom cabinet from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Bathroom-cabinet-/110544459518?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Home_Garden_Bathroom_Cabinets&hash=item19bcf696fe#ht_500wt_1154

Trouble is it wont match, do you think I can paint it as it's not "real" wood? I was thinking white paint and some pretty fabric behind the glass on the door. Is this a good idea or am I just mad lol?

fruit-loop - i love that bathroom cabinet, it is exactly what im looking for in my bathroom! Good job its not in my area or i would have to have a bid war with you!!! lol!

I would give it a go at painting it, cant see why not - im sure someone will come along and tell me im wrong! But id def give it a go. And the fabric behind the glass would be very SC, love it! THese IKEA cabinets are a fortune (to me) brand new, one i was looking for there last year was about £140 but i think they can be more than that! Its well worth it for that bargainous price!

Thanks natc. I know I cant justify the cost of a new one either! I hope it is ok to paint, I've been looking for something for ages! Didn't think about buying something and painting it before I found this thread!

It's not that local to me, about an hours drive, but we could have a day at the beach if I win:).

Thats a fab idea - day at the beach thrown in - like that! It would probably be wortht he hours drive - they are so expensive to buy brand new for that size. Even the smaller ones are expensive. I never thought about painting one either before i found this thread! Its great isnt it? Ive been wanting the exact same style cabinet for ages also, but i like the idea of SC so considering looking in antique/bri a brac shops and seeing if i can pick up and cabinet to do up. But the one youve found looks perfect and i really would give it a go at painting it - hope someone comes along soon to give you more expert advice!

Fruit-loop - There is a product you put on "fake" wood that will make the paint "stick" so to speak i'm not sure what it is called though sorry! Hopefully somebody else will be able to tell you.

Where abouts are you? I'm not too far from barry - the beach isn't up too much anymore :( The pleasure park has closed down it's a sorry sight! I thought they would have cashed in on the Gavin and Stacey theme - but it seems they missed the opportunity

    Thanks Lolly.:)

I will go and have a look at different primers today, to see what I can find.

I'm in Chepstow about 17 miles from Newport. Haven't been to Barry in years! It's a shame that the pleasure park has closed down, had lots of good days out there when I was young. Still my kids are very young and would be happy with a bucket and spade for a couple of hours to justify the trip lol!

You can get paint especially for painting on melamine. Ronseal do one and Wickes do their own brand that's a bit cheaper.
