Thanks for putting this thread back, really missed it.
Heres my garland, thats what I decided on in the end.
Oh, thats lovely! I think that i will have to dig around and find some pretty remanants or old clothes to have a go. I know I have some lace bits somewhere that I have horded for years. Makes my little heart scented sachets seem rather boring and insignificant!.
I only came across this thread by sheer luck. but I will be going to the beginning and taking a read. But it will probably take me a while so it wont be today.
I finished some oven gloves last night, and only have a little while this morning, so I think I may try and make a teapot cover with the remains of the fabric. (I will use it, as I have started having tea in the tea pot when my friend Molly comes over, we are teapots our selves!).When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0 -
Phew thank heavens it's back! Thank you! Artydoll your garland is lovely I think you made the right choice! You can stand there and agonize........

Hi everyone. I go away for the weekend and you all disappear!:rotfl: It may be the last time I go away to Bridport lol. I had a fantastic time with friends - I helped feed a young calf - may have to change my name to moo moo girl. I need your help and advice. To cut a long story short my soon to be ex husband is bringing around contents of our home now he has decided to sell the house.
There is a lot of the childrens art work and mother day cards etc. I dont want to throw them away especially as we lost our young daughter 4 yrs ago. I dont have a lot of room these days any idea how I can display them or keep them? Thank you for reading this far. I know its not exactly shabby chic but I feel amongst friends here. Love the photos. Glad we are back together. x:T:A0 -

What about a collage (sp) mix the cards up with pictures of the childrens artwork x"Friendship is certainly the finest balm for the pangs of disappointed love." Jane Austen.

Frenchgirl, this sounds like a stressful time for you I am sorry to hear that you are splitting your home, and so sorry to hear about losing your little angel.
I have all of my kids artwork and books in storage boxes under the bed, and on top of the wardrobe. I have some bits out and about in frames around the house and at work and bits on the fridge, but how about a 3d photo frame (or decoupage frame) you can pin stuff in there and put it out on display, cards and little pictures (a bit like a village noticeboard, but nicer). I saw one last night in the latest Ideal Homes Magazine, but it's at home or I would have scanned it in. You could change it every few months too.You can stand there and agonize........

Oh Frenchgirl, sorry to hear that you're having a tough time.
It's a lovely idea to make something lovely to display your kiddies artwork. I love Kandi's idea of the 3d frames. Ikea sell them quite cheaply or you can pick them up at boot sales I expect.
I am planning on covering a noticeboard in fabric and criss crossing ribbon so I can slot Dylan's pictures on it, they are not going to look good on the fridge once my kitchen has had it's makeover!
Excitingly my LA delivery of wallpaper turned up, I wonder when I can get DH to put it up...0 -
French girl, as you don't have much room to display them, what about making a scrap book, you could decorate/cover one to suit the personality o the child whose stuff it is, so that when your other child/children grow up and have children they have a book of their art work, perhaps interspersed ith the occasional photo of them at the age they were producing the works at, or reflecting what their loves/hobbies were/are as they go through various phases in life.
That way you can get them out and have a good pour over them, rather than storing them away or displaying them in a way you are not happy with?
For shorter term hanging of new works , I love the very simple clip frames....I used them for stuff my nieces used to give me. They look transient, but they are IYSWIM. So it suits.0 -
A variation on the scrapbook theme might be a file with a prettily decorated cover - somethings would go better into a plastic cover or into a sub file within a box file. I've had pictures from my nephew and niece and often it's the writing on the back that you want to keep looking at as much as the painting on the front!0

Yes, this is a much better idea!0 -
Thank you all for your ideas. It is very hard having had nothing for three years (my other daughter and I moved into a womens refuge - Long story!!) and now having all the childhood memories of my daughters and cards I sent/recd. I will look out for the 3D photos and I think I will make a collage of cards and photos I could also use some of the insides of cards if that makes sense.
Coming on here always makes me smile:jGod bless you all it means a lot to me. Keep up the good work. love x0
