Oh, I'm so excited because I have bought a dresser for my kitchen :j

My sister works at a Rebuild shop (where they sell secondhand furniture for low income families) and I went in to see her yesterday and there it was for £60.

I thought I couldn't afford it, but have decided to use my birthday money - plus my sister knocked £10 off it for me :D, so I have to wait until Monday now to arrange a delivery date - hopefully next week, then I can shabby it up over half-term :T

I will probably be back on here for lots of advice on sanding / painting etc ;)

I am already planning which items I will be putting on it :rotfl::rotfl:

Who knew a piece of furniture could bring such joy :rotfl:

Hi all, I have had a totally fantastic day, my little one and I have scoured every charity shop, and used furniture place for miles, I have found some great bits and one display cabinet to get me started on "Farrow + Ball" project number 1, I thought rather than keep posting pics here I would like to make a blog( I bow down to Bibbity Bob, hers is fab) but would like to show progress and have something to devote myself to whilst I am on the bandwagon of stopping smoking (11 days smoke free)Grrrrrrr!!!!
I am a single parent of 2 with 3 pugs and 2 cats also and aside from playing mummy to so many, I would like to have this time for just ME!!! My question is... How do I go about making a blog??? Which website please, thanks once again, from a devoted shabby Chic queen, Can hardly contain myself with the Bargains that I brought home today Yipppeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, I'm about to throw something out a window in a minute.

I've tried PVA'ing paper to wood like everyone's recommended but all it does is wrinkle the paper and give a terrible finish. How does everyone get a smooth finish? Or are the items you decoupage left with a wrinkly surface?!

i use watered down wallpaper paste instead of pva and roll it with a wallpaper seam roller as i am laying it on,wipe with damp cloth and place in airing cupboard to dry, then varnish.

Well my bargain hunting expedition today didn't disappoint, I came home with a huge bag of what OH describes as 'worthless junk' but I call 'beautiful treasures' :)

    From the flea market:
an old Kilner brand jar, just a screw top though, not the cliplock type ones
A small bird ornament, he's a bit chipped and cracked on one side but I think he has good character ;)
    Two champagne saucer type glasses
    A pale blue jug
A white jug with a pastel flower pattern
    All for a pound

A cut glass condiments set with 5 little containers and a tray for them to sit on - £1
Small double hinged shabby chic photo frame - 20p
    Heavy decorative stone heart, 20p

Cream wooden word: Dream from Home Bargains, £1.99. They also had them saying Family.

Small glass paperweight with a blue flower inside 75p from the charity shop

A gorgeous book called 'Gifts from the kitchen', some really lovely ideas in it, reduced from £2.99 to £2.24 in the Works as our local one is closing so they had 25% off everything. The photos are gorgeous and shabby chic so I'm going to prop it open on my book stand :D

This is my favourite buy from today - a Nutbrown cookie and biscuit maker, my mam said it's probably from the same time as she was a kid - so about 45 years old. It still has all the pieces and the original instructions booklet inside, and the box looks amazingly vintage. Although I have one, very massive gripe - why oh why do charity shops put those sticky labels on everything?! The surface of the box was pristine, not a mark on it, but when I pulled the sticky price label off it pulled a big patch of the box off too :mad: It's the same as this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VINTAGE-NUTBROWN-COOKIE-BISCUIT-MAKER-Complete-Boxed_W0QQitemZ370332345149QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Tupperware?hash=item563987233d

I'll try and get some photos up later :) Also if anyone's interested, B&M has in sets of two cake tins with either a cupcake or a Union Jack design for £1.99, and sets of ceramic letters spelling out Cook or Bake for £2.99 too in either cream or black.
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

Thank you :o the plastering course was off ebay, about £4.99 BIN if I remember rightly. Mr BB has become terribly clever at it now.

Thanks for advice on glue. I found PVA wrinkles have shrunk out (at least I'm crossing my fingers the rest will!) so will report back later. I like the idea of paste and roller though...what kind of paper does that work for?
