jdougl, I looked at those pictures and am green with envy. Those old machines look great.
Try at your local fabric/haberdashery type shop. My local one has a room out the back where they 'MOT' sewing machines. I know they do old ones and new ones. I'm sure a place like that would have a belt, or be able to advise you.
I downloaded a manual for my old (not as old as yours though) machine. It cost about 4 pounds and I'm so glad I did as it is much easier to use it now I know little things about it. So have a bit of a google those models and see if you can find any info.0 -
Oooh!! Congratulations 98jdougl on a super find :j.
I wouldn't know whether to kill him or kiss him either! (If he were mine, I mean - not yours...)

great idea flissh thanks, just don't know what models they are to find a manual lol0 -
The Singer looks like a 99K. If you look here you can look up the serial number to see when & where it was made

If you want a manual then look here

I have one that was made in 1915, which is how I recognised it. Try searching on google for images of the Jones machine, and compare them to your own.
Hope this helps!0 -
thats great and you were right lou, is a 99k, good eye (made in 1958)0

Oh wow! I love treadle machines and wish I had the room for one. I love the rhythm of using the treadle. Lucky you!0

well girls (and boys if applicable!) I got my fabric...after some discussion with very helpful patchwork woman in the shop ended up going for 5 inch squares from moda in this;

Tried to find a piccy of the design I have in my head but couldnt so will briefly explain! Firstly I dont like very busy quilts and wanted some color but not too much...so have decided to do 1 centre pattern square and then surround each one with 5 cream squares (calico cos will last forever and I like the texture!) and on it goes...have done the first square but alas my stitching is slightly out so very knowledgable prementioned friend will come to advise best method tomorrow! Love the colors though and the fact that there is a lot of cream...my fave quilts are welsh wholecloth...you get the beauty of the stitching not taken up by garish fabric! heres an example for those who may be interested...!
