Whilst I don't plan to "palm" off my child on anyone then I do think that some "mummy and daddy" time is vital... Not saying it would be a regular occurance but yes certainly I'd from time to time let friends I trust babysit my child from early on to go out even if only for a quick dinner with hubby...
My parents did this from early on and later they would let me fly on my own from one end of the country to the other when they divorced and I was about 5... I like to think that I grew up a very confident child as a resultI don't think there is a right or wrong really, just different views and so long as the child is loved and safe either is fine
I didn't realise that a child was allowed to fly unaccompanied at that age?0 -
They were on internal flights in Denmark 24 years ago
no idea if they are now?
There were often 2 kids flying like that (we used to get the 2 front seats!) and to be honest I think the stewardesses loved it - I've seen the inside of more planes than most people barring pilots I reacon
We used to be handed over to a stewardess at the gate by parent number 1 and then we'd be last off the plane walked with a stewardess to parent number 2We also had these fancy plastic pockets round our necks with all our details in them - i had a collection of them LOL

From the SAS websiteUnaccompanied children
Children sometimes need to travel on their own. We therefore offer an unaccompanied minor service to ensure they are looked after during the trip. The service permits children who have reached their 5th but not 12th birthday to fly alone.
Yep it's still 5 years old you can fly unaccompanied atDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

I dont understand why it is acceptable for a child between the ages of 5-11 to travel that way but not 12 onwards i certainly wouldn't want my daughter on a plane with out a chaperone at that age. But then i would never let my children travel alone in the first place but that is just me and i wouldnt knock anyone that has too i suppose circumstances can dictate sometimes. :-):jFriends are like fabric you can never have enough:j0

Well you learn something new everyday!
I guess maybe you have to pay more for this service? - as the air steward/ess has the responsibility of the children - just thinking sick, wetting incidents here
Not that I'd let my kids do this at that age but I guess each to their own if needs must0 -

No, that bit seems odd to me - guess there must be a reason for it though0 -

That how i feel too, although i regularly type a response out to vent my anger at some of the post's then delete them as i know it would give them satisfaction. Especially ones that completely miss the point of a post, because their to busy nagging each other over something completely irrelevant to the thread.(money threads turn in to arguments about gas & elec etc)slowly going nuts at the world:T0 -
I do agree about impolite children but it is seldom their fault. I would also like to point out that there are many rude and impolite adults in this world too. In fact I think I have met more of them than I have rude and impolite children.Credit Card Debt
