I think, at the grand old age of 23, that I'm old fashioned!! I hate people who smoke in their house if they have kids, I don't believe in packing kids off here there and everywhere just to have some 'me time' and I certainly do not believe that just because kids are kids, there is any reason to be rude or spiteful!
A few of my neighbours smoke outside, because they have kids, which I agree is only correct if they must smoke.
My local church often has families dumping their kids off at special events, but between events, they are not seen again. All to offload the kids for a few hours for free 'babysitting' and free food for the kids. Bizarre and unacceptable.
An ex girlfriend's parents used to smoke indoors, and when I entered the first time, the whole house was like a smoke machine. I left immediately, saying I appreciated they wanted to smoke in their own home, but I wasn't going to stay in it.0 -
I talk to dh about things in life, i talk to my sister, brother and friends..we all seem to think the same when it comes to answers of things..BUT i use this and another forum and when i ask something i am really suprised at the replys tbh and feel i am the only one who feels like i my friends & family do..
Example: (cut down!)
My neighbours kid climbs up and hangs over the fence being very noisy and irratating screaming (repetatively) at our bunnys (he has 4 of his own amongst the hoards of pets), now i am a childminder so am not adverse to kids but i get replys like 'you obviously hate kids' why don't you get rid of the rabbits' 'why dont you move house'??? i mean really is this the way people think nowdays? what happened to keeping kids under control as such?
It MUST be ME!!
As snowmaid pointed out in post 2, there are good people on this board.
Sadly, as with any forum, you get people who want to make their mark and wouldn't say things they would to peoples faces.
It's their problem. As with most things in life, reject what you don't want to hear and just listen to the useful posts.
On my thread about my cat dying, some idiot typed 'Just buy a new cat from sun.co.uk' or something like that. It didn't remotely bother me, as I knew the poster was most possibly an inbred with no intelligence to speak of at all.0 -
I was talking about adults.
But as it is, there are no rules except for those seats marked. If those seats are full of elderly and disabled, then expect to stand or wait for another one.
I don't use buses for the simple reason that they are the route of all evil. All that stuff in the bible about the devil, it was a mistake. It was supposed to be buses.
I still wouldn't expect a child to stand either.
As for who should or shouldn't stand I guess we'll have to agree to differ. As a child I was taught that children stand for adults (young kids sit on parent's knee) and adults stand for the elderly, disabled, pregnant women and parents with young children/babies. I've also raised my children that way too, it may not be the rule but I do think it's good manners and consideration for others.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
There were signs on our buses that non-fare paying children must give up their seat for a fare-paying passenger, not sure if it's been amended now the old folk travel for free.
I live in Dundee, though, and the buses are rarely full enough to need anyone to stand, except for school hometime.
I agree old folk can be just as rude as kids, some think they deserve to not say thank you when a door is opened for them, and I say 'you're welcome' in a loud voice just as I would do with a younger person who didn't show the common courtesy of saying 'Thanks'
What bugs me more is older folk who pull out in front of me from a 'give way' in their Daewoo Matiz , then eventually get to 20mph. (normally when I'm driving to work of a morning) That's downright dangerous, never mind rude - they haven't earned the right to break traffic rules just 'cos they fought in the war.:pMember of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
