Unfortunatley it is the receptionists who decide what is an emergency or not - and they have decided this is not an emergency.
I will have to wait a couple of days and say i need antibiotics. They only give emergencies to the elderly, children, people who need antibiotics and emergency contraception - and they gave me one for spotting whilst pregnant a week or so ago, i suppose it is a busy surgery and they have to prioritise - which i fully understand.0 -

 OMG - NO WAY HOSE!!!
Medical receptionist are in no way quailified to know what an 'emergency' is. I manage a surgery and this is not acceptable. You are pregnant - emergencies are for whoever needs them and you need it!
Either phone them up and say you are pregnant, concerned and need treatment - tell them NHS Direct told you that you need an appointment ASAP. Or go to a Walk In Centre - you shouldn't have to wait!
God, my patients get it good - we have a walk in surgery every day as well as emergencies!

Jha definitely do as Glam says - so long as you are pregnant anything in that "region" counts as urgent and a receptionist should not be triaging! We have a system where a nurse will call you to triage you for emergency appointments which works well I think... I wouldn't count on seeing a MW round here but then this sounds like a GP thing anyhows...
As for pessaries - initially I was told no go on them but in the last month the GP surrendered and prescribed me the pessary thingy for thrush (which btw seems to have cleared it in one go!) It may be that they won't allow you to use them in the first 2 trimesters?but I was definitely told that the oral and pessary options were NOT happening when I initially went (2nd trimester) so was on the cream only. It was after over a month of using cream and getting rid of it, then it would come back a week later etc that they gave me the pessary. They will will not give oral meds for it as it's not been tested as safe apparently...

Congratulations and welcome to the pregnancy club Taz
jha - I completely agree with everyone else - A receptionist has no medical training to give an opinion what is an emergency or not, you need to see a doctor.
I used to be a receptionist in a hospital, and I would have been in sooooo much trouble if I had decided who was an emergency or not, we always referred calls to nurses/doctors/consultants to decide who needed emergency appointments.
Little pickle - welcome back, I was wondering where you've been!Value of prizes 2010 - 2017: £8374 Wins 2022: Magic set
