Meal ideas with no oven? :)

  • My oven blew up on Boxing Day, thankfully it wasn't xmas day when I had to feed 14 people:eek:

Anyway, I have had no choice but to add to the debt to buy a new one, needs must, but it means I am without an oven until 3rd Jan when the new one comes and is installed.

I still have my hob, microwave and slow cooker, loads of leftover meat (gammon, pork, beef and turkey), has anyone got any ideas of meals I can make over the next week that I can cook without using an oven?

Ah wow you've got gammon - I'm round to your house!

You can do the gammon with chips and beetrot/salad, just bung it in the slow cooker. Then the leftovers you could do with pasta/cheese sauce.

Sorry to hear about your oven, I'm sure you'll get loads of ideas, but how are these for a start...

Stews, especially with this cold snap.

How about fried potatoes (par boiled first) with cold meats, or even slice up the gammon and chuck it in with the potatoes and add a few halved cherry tomatoes.

I love eating cold pork and turkey with hot apple sauce and mashed potato.

Beef is the hard one, unless you leave it in the freezer till the new oven arrives?

You could slow cook it with a load of carrots and onions in gravy? I usually put a big teaspoon of dried fine herbs in with mine when I do it that way. And you can get 2 days out of it if you pack it with veg and red lentils.

  • Leftover beef-retro style curry :) (I use curry sauce recipe from dairy book of home cooking) and chips and rice
Although saying that, if we ever had leftover roast beef, I only ever want to eat it cold! :D

  • MMM roast beef, horseradish and watercress sandwiches..... :T
Or just eaten in great big chunks with no bread :o
I LOVE cold roast beef, its just with only me and OH its rare we get to have it-no point roasting a small joint-its impossible to get it rare enough!
  • I really, really sympathise with you...our cooker went wrong about a month or so ago, and we decided through choice not to replace it. Our in laws bought us a Remoska as our Christmas present, and we make use of our slow cooker and hob as well. Havent looked back since, as the Remoska/slow cooker alternative works really well for us. We have the Grande version for 4 of us.

It may be worth your while asking on your local freecycle group for a cooker/slow coooker or remoska, to tide you over until you either got yours repaired or whatever...
