  • The best tip I can give is to use the recipes in the booklet that comes with the breadmaker!!! :p silly as it sounds!!! I got a breadmaker and set about using it with recipes I found elsewhere, needless to say that the loaves were carp!!! One of them could have been used as a weapon!! :p BUT when I started using the recipes in the book, they were nice!! And then, and only then did I start experimenting with those recipes as a base. And it has worked fine!!! So that is my tip of the day!!! :D

    Hi, this is my problem too with my Panasonic 253. I've had my machine a few weeks and I was making lovely loaves. Then I went through a bad patch where nothing was rising, so I threw out the yeast and with new yeast the bread started to rise again. During the yeast disaster the bread came out burnt around the sides. Now my cooker continues to burn the bread even though it is rising and I am using fresh yeast. :confused: Any suggestions gratefully received.

  • I think I'd like to get one of these and have a go at doing my own bread. I hardly ever buy supermarket bread as I prefer the posh stuff from the deli - olive, sourdough etc - so a breadmaker could save me some money.

    2 questions:
    1. I am allergic to milk so is there anything else I could use in this breadmaker as a substitute to the dried milk powder?
    2. Can it make a sourdough loaf - any recipes?

    Hmmm :think: with the milk powder, I do not use milk powder in my loaf. The ingredients are just water, salt, sugar, oil, flour and yeast :confused: do all the recipes state to use milk powder???

    which bread maker have you got? how do you keep your yeast? are you following the recipe to the letter, ie in the order it states? :o sorry for all the questions!! If I can do it anyone can!!

    Have you got a breadmaker yet? Follow the recipes that you get in the booklet first. I now follow a white loaf recipe but use brown flour and it turns out fine, no milk powder in that one. I tried to follow a recipe from here when I got my breadmaker and it turned out as a weapon!!! :rotfl: Just not right for my breadmaker!

    No, not got mine yet. I was thinking of getting this £14.99 one but I'm not sure if the recipes in it's booklet all use dried milk, or just the one above :confused:
  • We have never used milk powder and make lovely bread.

    It is added for flavour and extra nutrients as far as I know and is not needed for rising or any other reason.

  • Instead of using milk powder one time I used half water/half fresh milk for the required amount of liquid. It was a disaster! The loaf sank down to it's boots in the middle so I won't be tempted to try that again.
