I think there's plenty of users on here that can vouch that I don't work for tesco!
I'm also not trying to troll.
But tescos have paid me in free stuff through various ways, R&R, coupons, points , price check and DtD over the last 5 years, don't have a total but it's got to be well in to 5 figures
In R&R days, I don't think that anything illegal went on that warranted some of the actions that tesco did, it was just initiated by over zealous managers who were way above their station.
Yes the name was Kevin Kelly, horrible man.
People were getting accused of stealing the sheets of blank SELs and printing their own, then bringing them back into to store to claim R&R. I don't personally believe this happened, but with managers of stores with really bad price integrity, thus getting hammered for R&R it was affecting their budgets etc.
No one got arrested as far as I know, they just employed scare tactics to try and stop people doing it.
It was just another of tescos ill thought out policys of which we are still seeing evidence today.
Someone mentioned consistency. Unfortunately you will never ever get that from one staff member to the next , one store to the next . It's always been that way and always will.
If you are happy arguing over some stripey glasses with a manager and then head office, then is that worth the hassle as there may be a biggie round the corner which would be much more worth the "fight"
I'm not trying to stop anyone claiming DTD or judging anyone.
I could suddenly see the re evolving of this thread to how it was 5 years ago and I know what followed, that's all.

It has been brought to my attention that many users miss the thread about Tesco misprices that was previously located on Grabbit. Therefore I have started this thread to try and regain the important information previously enjoyed by the old thread that was one of the most popular threads:
This thread is only for posting any misprices you find at Tescos.
Please feel free to use this thread for discussion of the policy or any other discussions as this will help others to understand what it is all about and join in.
For information purposes:
For clarification SEL stands for Shelf Edge Label, R & R stands for Refund & Retain, DTD stands for Double the Difference0 -
We all went through this in 2006, with people being banned, court action etc.
All we can do is offer the advice but don't complain when you get followed round stores or banned from tesco stores or banned from clubcard and even private investigators being employed by tesco to trace users on here to try some scare tactics, which is easier than you think,
Um. I'm actually a little scared now. Surely that kind of behaviour is harassment? I wonder what the law is on this? Is it a crime to claim DTD with prior knowledge?0 -
Any one else notice how some things have gone up in price over the last week, just before they put an offer on them next week?
Got tesco's butter £1.00 on Saturday, went in today and it was £1.27, only to go on offer next week for Ramadan? Same with other items too0 -
Hi there
Bought 12 bottles of First Cape Rose Limited Release. Priced on offer at £3.49. Came in at till at £7.99. Got £108 back. Equivalent to them paying you £1.01 per bottle. Woo Hoo0 -
A lot of good advice about keeping a low profile and NOT rubbing T's nose in it has been given.
Its a pity that relative newcomers to the 'lets get something for nothing out of Tesco' club don't feel they need to listen to anyones efforts to help and just misinterpret good advice as interference.
When R & R was up and running there was an enormous effort by Tesco to catch people out - not just those that got 10 X boxes, 5 phones etc in one day either! I was low key but even getting R & R on meat 3 times in 2 weeks i the same store (different products, different SELs) caused problems with a particular CS woman and her manager.
Tesco are not always as daft as they seem - they can and will make life difficult if they feel you are abusing their system. They have been known to freeze large numbers of club card points, kick you off the system and ban you from certain stores. Not everyone is ready to take legal action over credit card points that they have taken back - Tesco shouldn't do it but, once they have, its a real battle if you want them back. Being banned from your local store can also be a problem if its the only supermarket you have near you - its hard for them to enforce a ban on all stores but local staff will easily recognise you and its embarassing to be thrown out at the door!
Tesco also monitor this forum and could, admitedly with a fair bit of work , could track the likely culprits of multiple DTD payouts. If they wanted to be difficult, then they do have the ability.
Too much in a short space of time will quite likely see Tesco clamping down or stopping the refunds. They aren't really as scared of Trading Standards as many people seem to think. Its a shame that so many people are intent on short term game - but its always the way, R&R, price guarantee DTD, unlimited coupon usage, H&B points etc all went exactly the same way for the same reasons.ELITE 5:2

Lots of good advice here as there has been from other posters recommending caution. I know what is being said is right, I've been there and worn the T-Shirt. Please beware. If you are seen scanning and then claiming DTD it will be refused, HO will back it up - you will be recognised and it is 100% certain that security do pass details (including photographs) between branches. Forget legality, think reality.
It is not helpful for relative newbies to suggest that advice they are not keen on is being posted by Tesco employees. What Thelurch says is true.0 -

fair enough.
I have only tried the stippey glasses myself and I was refused DTD by CS as 'technically they did not overcharged me. The offer has expired'. I did not press for dtd, as I did not want to draw attention.
However, I am not convinced there is a moral issue with people going deliberately to buy an item, when they know it will scan for more and claim dtd.
Tesco are gaining a compatitive advantage to other companies by boosting and advertizing DTD. Tesco is gaining from overcharging customers - as for most time this is not noticed. Others do not do DTD as they feel they cannot honor it and it would hurt their business, perhaps. There is nothing in the T&C to say you cannot buy something knowingly to get a DTD. So, I am not sure for myself if there is a moral issue hear. It seems somewhat fair to me. If you claim to do DTD when you overcharge customers, call me oldfashioned, but it actually pays if you do not overcharge.
What do you think?0
