We all went through this in 2006, with people being banned, court action etc.

All we can do is offer the advice but don't complain when you get followed round stores or banned from tesco stores or banned from clubcard and even private investigators being employed by tesco to trace users on here to try some scare tactics, which is easier than you think, I know first hand about that. It's all happened before to those that didn't play the long game, me being one of them when I first found this site.

I appreciate any advice given but the problem is that most of us newbies weren't around for the R&R days so we don't know what you're referring to. Without sounding cheeky, would you be so kind as to explain what happened back then that resulted in private investigators & court action? I've had a few DTDs but thankfully not concentrated in one store or all on big items.

Totally agree with you mouschka on both your posts, I've tried to post some advice on here about the pitfalls of some of the antics of the new generation of people on this thread. A few old timers have also felt the need to come on here too and try to offer some words of advice, which I have found has always been greeted with a " I know what I'm doing, I'm not doing anything wrong" attitude.

So to whoever got 2 or 3 items dtd at the same time, have a think how that might look from the other side of the desk.

Yes it's their policy, yes you could buy 20 toasters you knew scanned higher and demand your dtd, but it's not the law, it's a policy that they still can refuse to pay out on,

I think a few people will soon realise the value of the advice being given by some long standing members on here and calm their actions down for the good of themselves and others.

Oh and a healthy dose of paranoia isn't a bad thing when you are taking on a multi billion pound empire like tesco, they have the technology believe me!
my mum the poster who got 3 items dtd at the same was buying kitchen items for my sister who is disabled with 4 kids and cant manage to get to shops on her own was over charged she only knew of one item which was dtd the others was a pure find after she reported the first u can all sit and slate but no one knows of others circumstances its not as if she went out looking for the glitches just so happens she found them at the same time after she paid she is not a new comer and knows full well of the outcome

I can't go into too much detail, I've probably given out too much detail already, basically it got to the point where people were getting "remembered" at CS desks, security started taking stills of prolific offenders and things like credit card numbers in some instances were collated to try and identify individuals involved. Admittedly back then with R&R there were more opportunities for getting your money back, but every time a store tries to give you the difference and you point out the blue board, they will know that you have prior knowledge of what you were doing, there's a fine line between acting dumb and deception in order to obtain goods, can't say anymore on that one.

I seem to remember some people had their cards blocked from working in store too. A lot went on back then which I cannot talk about for obvious reasons, but users like thedude were the main players at that time.

Tesco even dedicated one person at head office to deal with major R&R claims like the free psp and xbox360 consoles. People got refered to him and he would call people back late at night intimidating people.

I just don't want to see a return to those days, by all means go get the deals, but let's all try and show a little restraint when the adrenaline starts to flow when you see those yellow out of date SELs

Is that the infamous Kevin I keep hearing about?

My issue with DTD is consistency. I had a 'heated chat' with one CS trout for a DTD worth less than £10 that I had no clue of in advance (a multibuy that didn't go through). My biggest DTD was worth over 10 times that yet the CS peeps didn't even bat an eyelid!

I admit it, I'm nosey. You can PM me if you don't want to be public about it but what was the worst thing that happened to the R&R folks? I mean, was there anything illegal going on that anyone got charged for?

DTD is Tescos policy for overcharging so as long as I'm not messing with SELs or infiltrating their IT systems (I'd take a guess of username: administrator; password: password :rotfl:) then I can't be committing fraud - deception maybe if I know a DTD in advance but then they are trying to deceive the public by enticing them with prices and offers that they regularly don't fulfill. Those glasses must be one of their best selling items and one of the worst offenders for DTD. You'd think after all this time they'd sort it out.

My 2 pennoth worth of advice.
    Use cash
Do not use your club card.
If one person is getting numerous DTD even at different stores, but using the same credit card or club card..... dead easy for HO to spot it.... esp when the refund is going back on your cc all the time;)

In the old R&R days I actually stood behind a couple who were arguing long and loud that they had been overcharged.... and even used the phrase "R&R" to the manager who came down.....I still feel sick just remembering how I felt witnessing this.
R&R was just an expression we used amongst ourselves - and remember Tesco staff read and contribute to this website..... so they know what certain customers are up to.
You are supposed to have accidentally, innocently been a victim of a lapse in Tescos pricing Integrity...... NOT a professional who deliberately goes into store to walk out with items for free courtesy of DTD.
The name of the game is LOW PROFILE

    Well just think logically.
Do you think ANY business wants to give you valuable products for FREE?
Do you think Tesco have make millions upon millions of £ profits by not being ruthless?
DTD like R&R before it is not a legal requirement - otherwise all stores would have to offer it.
    It is a PR exercise.
R&R originally was advertised on TV with Prunella Scales hunting the store out trying to find anything 1p more than the sel showed. In the advert of course she never could. So Tesco was showing how honerable and trustworthy they were... and if anyone ever did get overcharged, they would get to keep the item and get all their money back.... because Tesco was trying to brainwash the public into believing the hype - by putting their money where their mouth was.
But when hundreds if not thousands of customers actually did find themselves being overcharged, and getting the item for free. Christmas Annual, TV's, Game Consoles.... they pulled the advert.
They also eventually pulled R&R..... despite Tesco being wrong, and the consumer being right, despite us trying to convince ourselves that it would cause such bad publicity and thousands in fines from old Consumer Protection Dept that Tesco would never dare.

Before the end of R&R, peeps were being banned, had ALL their Club card points wiped out (someone was getting married and nearly got enough airmiles for the honeymoon when his and his fiances cards were wiped of all points). Some peeps were escorted upstairs to be interviewed by staff and security guards etc...

So when us old timers give Newbies 'friendly' words of warning...... do what you like. Carry on regardless, but IF the doggy doo hits the fan, just remember you have been warned.
