Might be an idea as well to keep the letter they send you with the gift card in your bag in case it happens to you again.0 -

I handed it in to customer services who just took the money and put it in the till. I carried on shopping but was feeling slightly aggrieved that nobody had taken my details or even said thankyou. i went back to them after about 10 minutes to ask them to take my details down in case the money was not claimed. I was made to feel that I was being a nuisance but eventually my details were written in a book specifically for this type of situation. (There were no other entries in it) I was then told that if the money is not claimed after 28 days it is given to charity. I know this is going to sound selfish but while I am more than happy for the person that lost the money to get it back, I do not agree with it being given to charity by Tesco if it is not claimed. Surely it should be offered to me and I could give it to charity if I so wished. I checked this with Tescos helpline and was told that yes, that was their policy except it was 6 months not 28 days. It has left me feeling that it doesn't pay to be honest.
Unbelievable! That really is terrible. I do find money very occasionally, if it's a note I always look around to see if anyone has dropped it but, if not, I keep it or give it to charity. I *never* give it to anyone. If it was more than £20 I would probably hand it in to the police but not to a SA in a shop.
Anytime I find a purse/wallet/anything else, I always hand it in to the police. I have found dozens of purses, usually on the floor in a bar (or outside one) at 2am! I always hand them in.MisalignedHalo wrote: »I would get a friend/family member to go in and ask if it was handed in, they could claim it was theirs. In this case, I would second your suggestion - otherwise it WILL just be pocketed by someone in Tesco. Really shocked by your story tbh.Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

A few months ago I found £10 near the cashpoint in the car park of Tesco Axminster. I handed it it in and they logged it. After the designated period I went in and checked and nobody had claimed it, so they gave me the money. The Tesco staff were completely straight up throughout, so I certainly can't reflect the mistrust shown above.
As for the poster saying 'it doesn't pay to be honest', I think you're missing the point of honesty. It wasn't your money in the first place and you've lost nothing, whilst a charity will gain.
