does anyone just see this as sell your old car for £1000 to the government (after removing anything valuable), then get any normal dealers discounts which are normally more than 1k (bar smaller cars), I intend to go to my dealer and try and barter a deal before even mentioning scrappage then just say btw ....

Just spoken to a dealer and he says my car may not qualify as it was a cat D write off a few years ago. Does anyone else know if this would throw a spanner in the works?

Well. DealDrivers have updated their ford scrappage. Effectively I will need to add £316 to the price then I can subtract £2000. I cant get more than £1000 for my 1999T focus 1.6 petrol so a perfectly good car is being scrapped. Plus ford finance give a £1000 deposit on 7.9% at the moment (which is the best rate for a small loan anyway) so thats £2684 off a car that has already been discounted at dealdrivers. I cant find a second hand nearly new car that will beat it for me (Im looking at an SMax)

Shouldn't do - rules are Mot, taxed and insured. If car is legally on the road it should be included in the scheme

revised rules apparantly state "must not be an insurance write off" but they have also extended the date to cover all "T" reg cars
  • Been speaking to a couple of Subaru dealers and I have to say I'm disgusted at their attitude.

Apparently Subaru UK have told them not to offer anything at all to anyone wanting to take up the scrappage scheme offer. No discounts or freebies at all.

To cap it all off, they pocketed the £250 discount from the 2.5% VAT cut. That's just pure greed.

Quite how they expect to sell any cars when many other manufacturers are offering massive deals on top of the scrappage scheme don't know. Suzuki are offering a £500 discount and nothing to pay for one year on a 50% deposit, then two years interest free credit. All on top of the scrappage scheme.

I'm going to get a Mitsubishi I think. I wanted the Subaru Justy, had cash in hand but I'm not going to be treated like a mug.

Just bought a Hyundai I20 5dr in red for £6245 after scrappage. Delivery date June to July. Had to try a few dealers though before I got one that would sell me a red one (only colour that isn't subject to the extra £350). Had it not been for the fact that they are one of the few manufactures offering genuine discount on this scheame, I wouldn't have considered Hyundai, but since reading reviews I'm more than happy with my choice. Hyundai is only just below the top manufactures (all jap) for reliability.
    Next year we'll be millionaires!

It is true that the manfrs with their cost bases in Eastern Europe (where some Hyundai models are built) and some parts of the Far East are the only ones able to provide cheap and real list prices. What the biggies have forgotten is that this recession has made people SO focussed on value for money. It would be nice to see Nissan fighting back on their UK built models but they seem complacent.

So this scheme is going to send a lot of UK taxpayer's money abroad... interesting...

Just scrapped the focus. GK Ford matched dealdrivers (to within £150 which would have been my cost to drive my car and pick the othr up) so a good car has just been scrapped!
