  • Hmmm i'd understood the same as you.

However i don't think anyone really knows not least our Government, seems to be typically well excuted plan by them.
How have they managed to take a simple format tried and tested by several countries in Europe and still screw it up?.

I tried to raise this earlier but no response!

But how about this. These guys are arguing that if vehicle owner has declared SORN then it doesn't need an MOT and therfore must be eligible for the scheme. So if these guys are correct how do you get your heap of junk to wherever it has to go to be scrapped since it is off the road it can't be driven there?

I have such a heap of junk but I'm not holding my breath.

Does anyone have any new angles on this? by which i mean one that hasn't been covered before.

I'm still wondering who gets the scrap value for these car's? Whats the deal between the scrappies and the Government?

I would have thought the cars would become the property of the dealer selling the new car

My biggest thought is that this is a wasted opportunity! This scheme could have been used to boost the market for more environmentally friendly cars (oxymoron I know but there are some that are less evil than others).

Why didn't the government state that the money would only be available if you take certain types of car? As jtownson quite rightly says

    About this sentence:

"First registered in the UK or after the date the scrappage scheme is launched and declared new at first registration in the UK with no former keepers"

So lets move forward to December 2009. Could I then buy a 6 month old car on the scheme?

The car would have been declared new at first registration and would of course then had no former keepers.......

I'm focussing on the fact there is no full stop or comma after "UK", but I'm no expert at the english language. No chance?
  • When i first read it tbh i took it to read the other way.

But i see your point and i agree it is far from clear.

not that I'm an expert on this kind of thing but I did read an article on the my money page of BBC News site that you would need to be the first registered keeper not the garage. If this is the case technically a 6 month old car wouldn't count.

:eek:My 15 year old Corolla meets the criteria and I have savings which would mean I could buy a new car. My car has been brilliant but I feel it just starting to have problems. The MOT runs out on 17th May!! I have to have a car for work so have to make a quick decision about whether to look into this scheme if it going to start in time or risk putting car through MOT, which could be an expense this time! Any suggestions/ ideas very welcome. I really can't decide what to pursue

I believe, and there is a lot of incorrect information out there so I cant be certain, that the scheme is due to come into effect on the 18th of may. However, that doesnt mean you cant scrap your car under this sceme before then (at an approved site), and still obtain the voucher. As long as you dont use that voucher until after the 18th.

I've been looking at this and asking around dealerships, and the general consensus seems to be that they pick your old car up from you, when the new car is delivered. So no worrying about your SORN declaration :)
