Question about children sharing a room

  • It was only that price because we did 90% of the work ourselves over a few months. We got a company in to do the stairs and they were around £800 (cash) to make and fit them which was a bargain. It is worth getting them done properly just for the safety factor. Also they were made to measure so as not to lose any space in the existing bedrooms.
I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.

So i guess now probably wouldn't be the best time to say that our local authority class you as over crowded if you have same sex children with an age difference of 4 years sleeping in the same room

Well all I can say is my auntie had 13 kids in a two bedroom house, not only were bedrooms shared but so were beds

In fact I think most of my extended family had huge families in small houses, I remember staying with one uncle over night on my way to the ferry and he had made his own triple bunks to fit his kids in the room (still found the room to put me, sister, three cousins and aunt and uncle up)

I shared with two sisters until we all left home

And when I was housed by a housing association in a one bedroom flat and asked for a two bedroom so DH two kids could stay (boy and girl) they said no chance as us having kids was our choice so we could find our own alternative accomadation or put up. Which in all fairness is an attitude I agree with so we saved hard and bought a two up two down and the kids shared a room till their late teens when we could afford to buy bigger.

To TheEffect, can I just say I would so love to move in your circles, the ones where everyone you know is a high earner providing the best of everything for their children. For the rest of us mere mortals we have the option, live within our means or get into debt up to our eyes. You say this country in the 21st Century? Well open your eyes and read the papers - THIS COUNTRY IS BROKE. People are having their homes reposessed daily, people are losing their jobs. Sure for the past 10 years this country has had this huge show of wealth but it was all make believe. Most of us are thankful that we have at least one bedroom to sleep 4 or 5. In America, one of the richest countries in the world families are pitching tents.

I'm not sure how old your children are, but when they get to that certain age, they're going to NEED their own space...

Rather more to the point is that the MOTHER needs her own space!

Ok if i have this right the op is in a council house and wants a bigger one. I am presuming the council are paying the rent ?

    Why would you assume this?

Could you not simply install a rope ladder?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Hmm not sure a rope ladder over the stairs is really safe, i guess i could have it coming down into my bedroom if they made a 2nd "hole".

Well i can afford the rope ladder the rest of the conversion might be a problem though :D
