Question about children sharing a room

Am I the only one who remembers sleeping more than 2 to a room when you were kids?
Certainly wasn't anyone mumbling about it being legal then!
I do not remember sleeping in my own room but must have done before DS was born. Thereafter until I left home I always shared a bedroom, ranging from decent sized to too small for two beds so we had bunk beds.
At one point the entire family was in a large touring caravan, with two of us in the "double" at one end, wee bro on cushions on the floor and our parents in the drop-down bed in the main portion, separated by a folding screen.
When that was not even an option, we slept in a number of temporary arrangments varying from three to a bed to lilos on the floor in various friends' or familiy members' houses. In 18 months we were in 8 houses and a caravan (excludiing holiday arrangments).
We fought often and it would have been nice to have a separate room but none of us ever dreamed it was an option. I was just really glad to be somewhere from which we did not HAVE to move and to go to the same school, even if I hated the whole town.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
:T well said!So if any little accidents happen you will be down the abortion clinic then?
I really doubt it, you will do what normal folk do, make do with what they have until they can afford better.
In this day and age it is far more irresponsible to get a mortgage up to your eyeballs so the kiddies have a room each. Share a room or watch mum and dad drown in debt and end up in a council temporary accommodation bedsit?

Just to add that the background to our little odessey was bankruptcy, repossession and a large dose of ostrich. If my parents had been a little less keen on outward display and dealt with the financial problems this caused earlier, all our lives could have been less traumatic. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Children NEED love. Its adults who get het up by things like "own bedrooms" - the thought that a person is being "irresponsible" by daring to have more children that they have bedrooms for is hilarious, very western and very modern- some posters in his thread have been really judgemental and maybe need to go out and live a bit of life before judging;)0

After reading this I think myself very lucky! I have 4 children, 3 girls and a boy and 3 bedrooms. Our current arrangement of girls in one room and boy in another are working well. Given the current climate my oh and I are glad we didn't mortgage ourselves to the hilt to buy that bigger house - we'd have been repossessed by now as I have been made redundant and oh has had to take a lower paid job. Our children have always shared and in honesty I think it does them no harm at all.0

OH and I will be sleeping downstairs and we are currently looking at and saving for, a wall bed solution (with storage!)
Taye, no idea how much these fold up wall beds are but may be a suitable solution for you?
At the end of the day, it may be a small place, but its YOUR place. The children know it as home and its where they are happy and safe. Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

Wow, I really can't believe that people would have so many kids when they have such small houses, it's so irresponsible I've got a 2 bedroom house and a small baby and until I can afford the extension I wont be having another baby at all.
With quotes like that do we need another mini you in the world? We live in a two up two down and have 3 kids 2 boys and a girl. We have "converted" the attic to put the girl up there and the boys share a room. We could move any time if it was a perfect world but seeing the house next door selling after 18 months on the market I wonder if it is worth the hassle of finding our dream house then not being able to buy it due to not selling ours.
The solution - We make do. Its tight, we've got storage boxes full of toys every where. Its cluttered. Who cares? The kids are happy.
Irresponsible? I don't think so. Sick of pig headed posts from highly strung keyboard warriors? Yes. If your world is so perfect stay in it and leave our cramped bedrooms alone.I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0 -

We're in a 2 up 2 down and needing to convert the loft. Glad to hear it is possible! :T Just wondering how to do it.... :rolleyes:0 -

Its not huge but it works, we got a professional in to do the stairs but boarded the floor and put a velux window in ourselves. I good idea I had was to place small chests of drawers in the sides of the attic and put plasterboard around them to create more storage space. We got the drawers in Ikea. They work a treat. All in it cost about £2,000 including decorating, a cot and carpeting the stairs and the floor.I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the Ramada/Days Inn BRG thread.0 -

 £2'000?! I was told more like £10'000!!! I think I will go and get a few quotes (although we may get a disabled facilities grant for DS2 who has cerebral palsy). I feel a bit more happy hearing that!
thanks! 0
