We rented a 2 bedroom house privately and our 2 (aged about2 and 5ish at the time) had to share a box room (literally, they had a cotbed sized bed each) but we saved for 12 months until we could afford a larger house (well, one with 3 bedrooms)
It means we go without a lot more than we did before as the house costs more to rent, but its priorities at the end of the day.
To be honest, the council are there to help put a roof over your heads, they're under no obligation to provide anything more.
Your best bet would be to advertise for an exchange0 -

Without wanting to be too contraversal, I think that's a bit of a bloody cheek considering that people who are here to work can claim child benefit to send it home to their families...The state can't provide for British families...I wonder why?Started PADdin' 13/04/09 paid £7486.66 - CC free 02/11/10

That's solely an issue with the UK administration of the Child Benefit scheme. If the UK changed the rules so that school attendance in the UK was linked to Child Benefit - then there would be no problem at all with claims being made for children that aren't resident in the UK.
It does indeed seem to be lunacy that the UK pays out for foreign children who aren't even resident in the country. From Poland...with love.
They are (they're) sitting on the floor.
Their books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.0 -

Reading through this and some of PBS's previous posts - why oh why didn't his/her parent's take this priceless piece of advice! :rotfl::rotfl::beer:0 -
Am I the only one who remembers sleeping more than 2 to a room when you were kids?
Certainly wasn't anyone mumbling about it being legal then! My mum and stepdad had a 1 bed flat and if we were all there that was 4 kids - 3 of us in the livingroom and my youngest half brother in the bedroom with them... 2 girls and a boy in the livingroom on camping style beds. Wasn't glam, wasn't posh, but we made do and we didn't argue because that was just how things were - that flat was all they could afford.
Later when they moved I had to share with my stepsister and I hated her - just because we were the same gender did not mean we got on at all!
Sorry but you have a roof over your head... I'd be grateful! A coupel of times I've been in need of a roof over my head and because I had a job and no kids I didn't even get a B&B room and ended up sleeping on friends floors etc for weeks. I'd have been happy with a bedsit but there was nothing to give at the time... Would maybe looking to rent privately and putting some money towards it yourself be an option? So you get your entitlement and then you top it up? Don't know if it works like that though - sorry.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

makes me laugh that you make do with a girl/boy, or even whole families sharing a room, but if you wanted to home one of the hundred of kids stuck in the care system they would have to have their own space,
one rule for one...etc etc...0 -
Another option is for the children to have a bedroom each and the parents have a sofabed in the living room. (Their wardrobes could still be in the kid's rooms).
Or, if it's a big enough room, divide it with a screen.
Some friends of mine have brought up three children (two boys, one girl) in a two-bedroomed council house and first of all they did the sofabed thing and then they bought the house and divided the boys' room with plasterboard to make a small rom for their daughter (It had two windows so this was possible). You just have to be inventive!
TBH, many people in bought or privately rented places do not have enough room for the children to have a bedroom each, don't see why Council tenants should be any different.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Yup like me

i own my home .. well it's morgaged but you get the point it was bought when i married my now ex-husband before we had kids, shoe box .. 2 up 2 down, 1 bedroom and a tiny box room not big enough to fit a bed in.
12 years later im still in it, with my 2 boys .. 3 of us share one room, with some wardrobes and a freezer in the box room.
Sometimes i think i would be better giving up the house and going to the council, but i worked hard for it, it's not much but it's mine.
I've thought of moving and each year it becomes more desprate but i can't afford another house, no company in thier right mind would give me a bigger morgage, besides i can't afford to pay more than i'm currently paying even if they did, so im pretty much stuck.
It's really hard because my eldest will no-longer bring friends home because he's embarressed that he shares with his mum, but it's getting worse my youngest still shares a bed with me, and it's reaching the point where im seriously debating moving myself into the livingroom, by getting hold of a sofa-bed just so they have some space.
God help me if i ever got a boyfriend. This months aim :- Stick to food Budget / find £100 for my car insuranceMay GC :- £250/£234.55 :T:A:TJune GC :- £150/£127.37:eek:0 -

I know kids should be happy with what they have etc etc, but 3 people in one room is not a suitable living arrangement in my eyes. I'm not sure how old your children are, but when they get to that certain age, they're going to NEED their own space...0
