May 2009 Grocery Challenge

Ok, as I started from May 1st, I'm going to post my first spend (yesterday) and sadly spent £2.72 on a meal deal (as I had forgotten my sandwiches for lunch
) and on jacket potatoes for tea. I'll update my signature accordingly. I keep thinking all of the things I'm putting into my mealplans and I'm finding I'm getting a bit bored with them. I must have a look through the recipe index and see if I can't find something a bit more exciting one night. Mind you, we had posh sausage and chips for tea last night, and it went down rather well! (It was sausage sandwiches with jacket potato wedges
)
Slight change to my mealplan too (thankfully) We were going to try and go out for a meal tonight, but the lure of a steak sandwich in a freshly baked baguette (thankfully got both of those ingredients already in the freezer) means that I get another no spend day, all being well. We do need milk and a loaf of bread though, so we might have to pop into Mr M's on the way back from a birthday party this afternoon.
Off to update my sig, have a good day everyone!

Hello I'd like to join you guys if I may. I have just totted up how much I spent in supermarkets in April and am horrified that it was £566. This includes petrol, food, presents & cleaning stuff. My housekeeping is only £300 so DH is going to be horrified too.
My goal is to bring it down to £300. Today's a no spend day. So is tomorrow and so is Monday.
I've decided to keep receipts for EVERYTHING so I can't fool myself. Do you all reckon up your spending daily? Surely that would make you obsessed with it!0 -

Wow, a new month's thread already....this is my first full month. I joined halfway through April and on 15th when I joined I had hoped I could limit myself to £160 to last until 30th April.
Well, on 21st April my husband was made redundant and it's completely shocked me, so I've used up the contents of my freezer and cupboard over the past two weeks resulting in my budget for those two weeks being £87.90!
I set May's budget for £220, which is £7.19 per day and spent £3.17 yesterday. I need to do one 'medium' sized shop per week to get the bread and school lunch stuff in, and heavy stuff like pop and milk etc...but as I live so close to a Morrisons, I'm going there daily or every other day (if I need something) and just getting what I need. As you can see from the above figures it worked for me the last couple of weeks. We've been eating alright too...no complaints from anyoneStart Date: 27/11/2010
Padding: Day 42
Target £8000
Amount: £562.230 -
Just updating my signature with yesterdays spends in Aldi. 2 x 6 pack of kiwi fruit - 49p each, 1 celery - 49p, plum cherry tomatoes - 89p and more lettuce seeds - 35p. My first major shop will be next week as I shopped on the last day of April.
Today I've spent £7.28 on bread, milk & an extra chicken for tomorrow's lunch as my Mum will be joining us.
Hope everyone else's month is going well so far & enjoy the weekend0 -
Ok, my target for this month is going to be... £31.00.
Now, before I really sound insane, I have a logic about this! In June, I am moving home till I can find graduate work, so I want to eat through the stockpiles of food I have developed over the last few years. This will mean a lot of inventive dining, and a lot of straight-to-wok noodles, as I seem to have developed an obsession with buying them.
As well as that, I have a £50 giftcard for Tescos because I bought car insurance with them, which I am planning on using for groceries, taking a drive to the big Tescos about 2 miles from work.
I will need cash for getting last minute veg/that needed pint of milk, as I don't have a Mr Ts near my flat. So £1 a day for the whole of May should be completely do-able. In theory.0 -
Hi
Please put me down for 200.00 in May Mrs M. I won't be able to post often but it helps me knowing I am working to a budget. Spent 62.00 yesterday this included 1K of cashews and 1k of pistashio's. Also got a lot of YS treats for the weekend. Wish DS would eat salads, it would make my life easier, seem to always be looking for alternatives for him. He eats cooked veg OK but wont touch raw stuff.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb
