great - time to put the other card in my purse then considering I always get my petrol at asda. Do you know the reason behind this?

    Select Visa.

It's true you can't use them at pay pumps at petrol stations.

Should be no problems using pay at pump unless it is a full auth card (blue) as this is replacement for Solo but purple is replacement for Maestro and should work fine.

are you sure this is the right way round-my previous card isa maestro but the visa debit I received is blue?

Yes, Purple has Cheque Guarantee and Blue doesn't.

    Just my two penneth...

I have two accounts with Natwest. A Step and a Current Plus. Step account had Solo, Current Plus had a Maestro (Servicecard 100) with CG.

New Visa cards came for both. They were both blue. I called Natwest and they confirmed that the system had 'got it wrong' for the Current Plus account. I should've had a Purple Card with CG so they ordered one. It arrived 5 days later as expected with £100 CG facility. This is a full debit card that can be used offline as well as online.

The blue card on my Step account is really just the same as the Solo was, just with a different name.

whats the scoop on the £1.25 charges for using the card - Im having a row between the bank and the retailer at the moment as theyre both passing me to each other and both denying responsibility?
  • Yep. Natwest no longer do Solo or Maestro. I called them up in Feb when my re-ordered card came through as a VISA debit instead of SOLO. Thought something had gone wrong but apparently they're doing away with SOLO all together.

You were lucky to get it changed. I have a Step and 10 months ago opened a Gold current account. I received a blue visa debit with no CG yet I was able to get £100 overdraft within 2 weeks of opening the Gold Current Account. I rang Card Services and they said I need to go and sign for the CG.
I completed the form and then was still sent another "Blue" card with no CG. Went straight back to my bank and spoke to a manager from a different branch who was there on Saturday. She looked into this further and found that it was nothing to do with my credit status as this is ok but it was all down to my Step Account. The Step Account makes all the cards available to order as Visa Debit Cash Cards only.
So I closed the step account and ordered the cards and she was right they are purple with CG :j. So if anyone else is having problems getting a purple card and has a Step and Current Account, try closing the Step and then fill in the form for the CG. Worked for me :T
