I wonder if the switch to Visa Debit will actually happen as numerous people have asked in-branch and on the phone but RBS staff seem to know nothing about it.

Hope there's an update or some clarification on this soon.

I've asked at my local RBS branch re the change over from Maestro to Visa Debit and yet again nobody knows anything about it, the cashier even went to ask the branch manager and she didn't know anything about it either.... I wonder if it is going ahead??

I would assume that something big like this should be common knowledge to the bank staff?

Any RBS guys/gals online know anything about this, please update this thread.

    Thanks

    Ok, further update from yesterday.

I spoke to the RBS Sales Dept today regarding the Visa Debit Cards and the guy on the phone was brilliant. He knew all about it.

So the idea is a slow change over from Maestro to Visa Debit during the middle part of 2009, he rekons June or July this should start happening.

He explained that customers with the normal RBS Current Account will be migrated over first followed by the basic key account customers.

So, it is happening just very slowly.

Good to hear that a bank staff knows about the switching over from Maestro to VISA debit! Looks like Wikipedia is right also, lol.

Do you know if the basic bank accounts will get VISA debit, just like the basic bank accounts that Barclays and LTSB offer? Or will it be an Electron card?

I hope Natwest is doing the same... Or is it just RBS only? Hope you can confirm this.

I did ask about the basic accounts having a full visa debit card and he said yes, but i guess time will only tell.

I do hope so as a full visa debit card would be brill!

    Good to hear that.

By the looks of it, Natwest is not switching by the looks of it... Only RBS.

They are essentially the same bank so I don't see why one brand would switch and not the other?

I work for RBS and spoke to our card services department today regarding this debate to whether rbs/natwest are swtiching to visa and they know nothing about it.

If sales was telling you that the information was correct. Im guessing they was just trying to make a sale and get you to open an account ;-)
