No, not in UK law anyway. Maybe it is somewhere like Zimbabwe though....
really , show me some appllication otherwise , even the cats defence say the duty of care is on the owner to prevent roaming. They also say its a fallacy that cats are allowed to free roam.
Cats are widely covered by all animal cruelty laws , cruelty and pest extermination are two separate things entirely.
The classification of vermin in court is easy enough to prove in that a free roaming animal that poses any threat to property , livestock , your own pets or even personal health is pest or vermin....cats do pose that threat and its the owners responsibilty to prevent it.
Thats also why a roaming dog can be popped by a farmer even without worrying his sheep.Living semi in the coutry the first thing i did was put up a 7 foot wall between my dogs and the sheep even though I dont think they would worry them I just dont want them shot.
Is it really worth the hassle to let them out when a box of litter stops cats from being a target , I know I would choose litter. And it wouldnt be as expensive as what I paid for my wall.
Btw I trap mice and release , and love cats as I do all pets. One cat roams my garden at night and poos in my flower beds , sets off my lights , and is potentially leaving disease and parasites for my dogs and family to catch. How do I complain to the council about that , you cant catch it , perhaps a paintball hit so the owner keeps it in at night....or is that also cruel?
What do you think the council will do , go around every owner in a five mile radius to stop it from happening for the pets safety .... or try it on me should the cat be popped by my dogs or shot by a silenced 22.Not that I would though , until someone catches something that makes them ill or blind including my pedigree pooches which can easilly be classed as livestock just like those sheep when a farmer does it to a dog.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
They want to controll where the cat shoits annie pluss what the cat eats and hunts lol how mad is that ? & they even want to kill the cat for doing it too !!!!!
well, with people harping on about how cats have the same rights as humans, i think it's only reasonable to insist that cats have the same responsibilities as humans, and answer to the same legal system. the logical extension is that the cat that is the subject of this thread should stand trial for animal cruelty.0 -
So, my usual attempt at common sense failed ... as usual! Guys, didn't you pick up on the kiwi sanctuary point? Helen lives somewhere else, she's not mad, she's just got the p.o.v. of someone who lives somewhere where birds can't just fly away forom cats (hey, look up kiwis if you need to, they're a bit less nimble than kunekunes). It's too easy to think 'troll' but this is an international site nowadays and cultural misunderstandings/differences aren't that unlikely.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

To the OP - just a word of caution - 18 months ago my neighbour came round & complained that my brother had parked outside his house while visiting me. I apologised then found out my brother was actually parked totally legally and not obstructing the neighbours' drive as I'd imagined. There followed 18 months of sheer hell where the formerly friendly neighbours turned into absolute psychos - and I'm typing this sitting in my new house, having had to move a month or so ago.
Your neighbours may be sane, but then, I thought my neighbours were ok - until they showed themselves to be nutters. We did nothing to antagonise them other than phone the police when they went over the top - but in the end we just had to move house (and who in their right mind would move house in this climate?)
Good luck with your cat problem. I would never have thought I'd be the kind of person who shied away from someone acting irrationally but I can tell you I'd NEVER again risk a fall-out with a neighbour.0 -

Its unbeleivable that cats are not outlawed in oz and nz.Theres a story about a uk lighhouse cat wiping out an entire species , in oz and nz its the same thing. But also mice and rats were also accidently introduced to wreak havoc on the eco system.
shame.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -

been there , hence why I am semi rural now , and even then same thing different reasons. In my advancing years I find that you will always have an ignorant brstd as a neighbour , and others will think you are theirs.
If your neighbour never had a bought marked parking place then it was a free for all , thats someting I dont miss from city living.Even drive way openings are not immune to folk parking in fornt of it if not marked and allowed by planning.
I parked in a h bay with a h sticker displayed and came back to the police and an irate fooker that thought they owned it.Any blue badge could park in h space whether they applied for it or not i told them.Yes the owner was able bodied and did it to get a street parking space all of their own , years later was up on benefit fraud.Shouldnt have picked on their elderly neighbour whom just happened to be a relative of mine really.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
However..... if you're posession is causing the loss of peaceful enjoyment of other peoples posessions, ie you're cat is upsetting the nieghbours enjoyment of their posession (ie house/garden) then I would say that in principal you're in the wrong.
Are you taking the !!!!? Sorry i dont normally get wound up by pathetic posters like you, but what do you expect her to do? Sit down and have a word with the cat? Its natural!!! Cats kill birds, just like dogs chase rabbits or any other animals they see in fields, and god knows how many other animals that kill each other.
So because her cat killed a bird it deserves to be tortured? You should be absolutly ashamed of yourself, get a grip!!!
