I would never hurt or threaten to hurt cats though

For clarity: That I didn't agree with the OP doesn't mean I agree with the neighbour on the proposed act of voilence against the cat.

I haven't read the whole thread but my view is this: People who find cats killing birds such a shocking thing, need to spend time in the countryside and see what nature really is like. Ok, not feasible I appreciate that.

The point is that a cat killing a bird is one of the most natural things in the world. It is not pleasant to see by people who have never seen any killing except in movies, but that IS life (and death, yes).

You can't train cats to go against their instincts, so what is a cat lover to do? Have no cats because others find fault with nature?

Yeah. Don't know whose they are - they keep appearing in my garden, splattering poos everywhere and maiming birds all over the place. They're killing machines I tell you.:eek::eek::eek:

Why should the non cat owners have to spend the money? Like some others here I get really annoyed at the incontinence of various visitors to our garden. There is no soil in next door's garden, and yet they have two cats, and now a dog. Their cats use our small area of soil and our plant pots. A dog from two houses away wandered into our garden, poo'd and then left yesterday (we went and got the owner to clean up!). Even next door's small child once came in, wee'd on the patio and then left ... but he was very small at the time, and actually it was funny. But it is very frustrating and I don't quite see why it is ME being curmudgeonly. With a garden like we have, I would think it irresponsible to have pets, and theirs is even less 'green.

Sorry that was at my last post, but have to say, cats do still have the freedom to go wherever the hell they want. It's still an offense to hurt them though.

So if you don't want cats or other pests in your garden i'm afraid you will have to splash some cash. My cat is a house cat because I moved into a flat unexpectedly, now I live in a house the furthest she goes is my back garden to sunbathe, but i'm sure when she was younger she used to go into other people's gardens and take a dump too, it's in their nature to do so. Law of the land.
Would gripper rods do any damage?
They are small teeth, they will just stop a cat walking along the top of the fence. If someone wants to put stuff on top of their fences to stop cats getting in, I can't see a problem. I would rather a cat didn't get into a cat haters garden.

Ever ripped your hands to shreds on these whilst fitting a carpet? Might not have been these but the pet spikes which are longer, my sister just used grip rods to explain them, sorry only found that out through talking to her on the phone this evening.

I think we are missing the point about the distress here. The OP's cat has been causing distress to the neighbours, does that not count for anything? If you had a mice infestation that was getting into the neighbours house and causing distress would you not deal with it?

I think you're missing the point that I'm actually putting the nieghbours feelings before that of the cats. I hold all animals in the same high regard but sometimes the two just can't be happy side by side.

Apologies if my thoughts are rather radical but I see cats as being as valuable as birds or mice or any other creature. That it is a cat give is no more or less right to life.

Yeah I'd send my cat around after it has dealt with the mice in my house... ;)
