Problem with Hermes Delivery Services

I ordered something through Dorothy Perkins on the 2nd October. Got a dispatch email on the 3rd October with tracking details. I tracked it today and this is what it says
07/10/2011 10:25 Signature From Customer
06/10/2011 12:09 Courier Received
06/10/2011 06:27 Out For Delivery To Courier
05/10/2011 23:35 Processed at Depot
05/10/2011 14:44 Receipt at Depot
03/10/2011 22:40 Receipt at Hub
03/10/2011 21:15 Order Generated
Now I had it delivered to my work which is the Post Office (I do this with everything I order online as there is never anyone at home during the day). We have been open from 9:00am today and we havent had this delivery. Do I contact Dorothy Perkins or Hermes and does anyone have a number for Hermes as I cant see it anywhere?! So angry, knew it would be trouble as soon as I saw DP had sent it with them.
And no one at work could have signed for it and forgot to give to to you?Knowing my luck they were too lazy to walk into the Post Office and have just shoved it into the post box or something, argghhh
If it was put through the letter box, how would they have got a signature? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
They don't just not like it - they refuse!
'Our contract is with the sender, blah, blah, blah...'
But it is. The contracts with Hermes and other home delivery providers often state that they will have no contact with the end customer. This, in the majority of cases, is on the insistence of the suppliers, so that they can maintain control of the supply chain.
The courier companies do not have the customer services set-up to deal with customer queries. If their clients wanted to pay more for their services, then I suppose they would be prepared to make the investment, but seeing as the end customer won't pay an extra pound or two for delivery, I can't see that happening anytime soon. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Luckily I have only had the misfortune to have dealings with Hermes and not any other 'home delivery' company.
I know the contract is with them, but you would have thought they might want me to let them know what is going wrong with their delivery, rather than just blindly retrying again and again.
Every 'real' delivery company I have phoned has had no problem accepting calls from the customer (and the supplier doesn't seem to have a problem in this case - often the same that use Hermes, just a different service).
In fact, it wasn't just me they refused to talk to - even Amazon wasn't able to get through.
I now do not used the free delivery from Amazon and just pay the small amount extra.0 -
Oh brother. Seems like I'm the latest one to have to deal with these cowboys. According to their tracking website my Amazon parcel (a PS3 - valuable, a coincidence?) was delivered last friday. Amazon lists it as "delivered" too.
Only it wasn't. Not here, anyway and I was in all day. Whoever is playing on my PS3 it ain't me.
According to their website:
07/10/2011 10:23 Delivered to Secure Location
07/10/2011 10:16 Courier Received
07/10/2011 07:10 Out For Delivery
07/10/2011 03:14 Processed at Depot
07/10/2011 00:31 Receipt at Depot
06/10/2011 16:50 Hub Sorter Receipt Scan
06/10/2011 13:49 Order Generated
Now whatever this "secure location" is it wasn't my flat. Nor is there any garage, shed, outhouse or anywhere like that, I like in a block of flats. I'd never heard of these jokers before. Now I wish I hadn't. I'll think twice before ordering anything from Amazon again.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0 -

From what I have seen, Amazon don't dleiver things in transparent boxes.According to their website:

Have you asked your neighbours?
What have Amazon said about your parcel? Have you actually spoken to them? The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
No, they don't deliver in transparent boxes but how likely are they to further wrap something that is already well boxed and packaged? Isn't it more likely they'll simply slap a delivery note and address on the outside of the box, a box that happens to have the words "Playstation 3" written in large letters all over it?? Yes of course I've been in contact with Amazon they say they're going to contact Hermes and that they'll get back to me. No, the neighbours don't know anything about it.Blessed are the geeks, for they shall inherit the Internet.0

Arghhhh
Ordered some bits from the next sale and got an email early hours from them to say my parcel is out for delivery.
Well got home from college early today and low and behold there is a card through the door but all it says is she will try to redeliver tomorrow! There won't be anyone in tomorrow as I work full time (day release at college) but she/he hasn't left a number on the card so I can call to advise that I won't be in and to try and delivery to my work (just round the corner).
Most Hermes couriers are self employed aren't they? How can I get my parcels before she sends the damn things back to Next!? Any suggestions more than welcome.0 -

I personally won't be, I'll be an hours drive away but the office will be open. Might try it......0
