Perhaps if couriers kept to a regular schedule it would help customers. I know my HDNL guy delivers before 9am every day without fail. Royal Mail/Parcel Force delivers between 10-11am. City Link delivers at 12am. DPD phones me on day of delivery. But Hermes/DHL home delivery/Yodel etc can't even deliver on the right day, let alone at a regular time!!

but many couriers are doing collections and deliveries
combine that with couriers taking on collections the same day
    its not always so easy
    you get RM between 10-11am
that may not be the case for long with the changes coming in
my old office has been through it
some duties could be 10am one day,3pm the next

And how would you suggest they do that?

They have no idea what parcels they have to deliver until they get them. They have no idea which ones need to be delivered before one o'clock and which ones after. They have to design their routes according to the service commitments they are given, as well where they need to be delivered; so their routes will be different each day.

Don't forget to add traffic conditions / accidents ect.

There's always road works and temporary traffic lights somewhere so the courier will always be changing his route to avoid traffic.

It doesn't matter how accurate they are, people will always find something else to complain about :D

Indeed they do, but that is not say that many of the complaints are actually genuine. There have been several real concerns highlighted on this thread, some describe some appalling service and indifference, not only from Hermes, but from their suppliers as well. But, I don't believe the issues are as widespread as some would have us believe. ;)

I have never complained about a courier service before as i have had no need to but the service i had from hermes via amazon was very poor - in fact it was so poor I am not using amazon for new items. until i can see who is delivering the item - i will happily pay a premium for a reliable delivery service but even if i go prime etc with amazon they cant tell you who the delivery company will be. in this age it is simple enough to search around for another company who will let you know who will be delivering the item. I now use the second hand section of amazon and contact the seller if they have what i want and check who they use - usually royal mail which is not a problem as they offer me a good service.

just do a search on the net about hermes and you can see thier reputation

Same can be said with most companies of such sizes.

Out of curiosity, what problems did you experience?
  • I know that its easy to complain when things go wrong, but to put the balance right I think it depends on your local representative. I have used Hermes about 10 times, and the girl who collects and delivers to me in Ashbourne Derbyshire is absolutely great. Always collects on the right day, and takes notice of the 'special' instructions as to where to collect from or deliver to if no-one is around. So perhaps Hermes should be better at recruiting and training their staff, as I have never had a problem with them, and don't know how they deliver for such a low cost. P.S. Only signed up to this forum today, but that doesnt mean that I am a Hermes employee.
  • I bought something on eBay for £9.49 with £3.99 postage on Tuesday night. At 13:20 on Wednesday I got an email from MyHermes saying that a delivery was booked for them; on Thursday I got an email saying that it had been collected and it arrived an hour ago. So a Saturday delivery for £3.99 when the total transaction was only £13.48; i doubt you could even get a Saturday delivery anywhere else for £13.48..

    so they're not all bad.
