I know its not related to my situation but for sheer nosey-ness why are you no longer a postman?

    Well have a guess?

    Here's some clues:

Damage that can be seen to the outer wrapping
Damage that can be seen to the packaging
Damage that can be seen to the inner parcel
The contents of said package can be accessed
Was the item in this condition when you collected it

    etc etc

Not having any 1st hand experience of courier and postal operations I'm not sure on what job requirements are. However I would expect the person(s) delivering the package to have some duty of care to prevent damage occuring?

There are Laws re damage to property together with transfer of malice.

Yes, they most certainly do have a duty of care, but to the party they are contracted to. This makes it far simpler for you, as you only have to deal with one entity.

  • Expected a parcel today, didnt turn and up but as I predicted, the tracking information changed to "Courier to re-attempt". There was zero chance of me missing the courier. This company is useless and their cowboy couriers are outright liars.

There is obviously a Hermes employee who monitors this thread like a vulture and I have no interest in your comments, so please keep it to yourself. This is just a warning for others to avoid this company where possible.

And there is no way that you could imagine that the courier could have made a mistake, the package was mis-addressed or the system itself has a glitch? Or are all of Hermes's couriers cowboys and outright liars?

Not easy to avoid when they are one of, if not the largest home delivery service providers in the UK.

This whole thread is ridiculous. It seems that every recipient for that 0.5% of parcels that experience problems are coming to share their experience! (sorry, I don't know the actual stats so this is an estimate).

But dispite all the warnings people seem to be posting.... this week I have had 3 parcels damages by Hermes!! But guess how many I send out with Hermes ? 200-300 per month. And how many have been damaged before this week since Jan? 1. Not bad stats overall huh?

If you think Hermes are bad, you clearly haven't tried HDNL (before they turned into Yodel)!

Although I have to admit, it makes interesting reading :).

The chap that does my collections is always telling me stories about idiot customers. They're usually students aswell that seem to think the courier only serves them. "Will you deliver it after 7?" "I work a few miles away, can you bring it to my work?" and the best:
"can you collect this parcel please?" "yes, sure, where do you live?" "England, in the UK". :rotfl:
  • As predictable as Hermes rubbish service, here comes their employee with their pathetic attempts to try and salvage what little reputation the company has. We all know too well that their incompetent staff lie about their attempted deliveries. Just skimming this thread you can see it is commonplace with these clowns.

Anyone reading this should complain to the retailer and threaten to withdraw your custom because of Hermes' shoddy deliveries. Even if it is an empty threat, the retailer may think twice about renewing their contract them, and return to someone more reputable.

I've had several deliveries a week from HDNL and in all that time have only ever had one parcel go astray. Deliveries are prompt and before 10am every day.

Yet I had a delivery from Yodel last week and guess what, it was delivered by the Hermes courier!!! A day late and in the early evening. Not what I was expecting or wanting so won't be using that particular company again!

  • First experience with Hermes, two different companies, two different parcels. One dumped on the doorstep without even knocking to see if anyone was home, and one delivered to a completely different address, neither of them signed for even though both were supposed to be.
