Wht was the item and what packaging was used?
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark
  • It was packaged in its correct box with protection etc

The plain wrapping paper had been torn, the packaging had been torn to expose the box. You could then partially lift the lid to view inside.
The item is a water filter unit.

    Was the item itself damaged?

  • Yes. The inlet valve body.

Your claim then is with your supplier. It is possible that the packaging was inadequate, but that doesn't absolve Hermes, they really should have taken more care of it, but you cannot claim anything from Hermes, as your contract is not with them. What has been the response from your supplier?

  • 1st Class. They have contacted Hermes and are following the Hermes claim process.
I have sent required photos and proof of sale will be forwarded by the supplier.

Parcel arrived. Badly dented and ripped. The courier wouldnt stay and discuss the situation. Just saying "Wasnt me looking inside".

Rang Hermes who refused to deal with me or give me an average timeline on how long damage claims take to settle.

Why do I get feeling this is all going to go wrong?

PS. Forgot to say on opening the parcel it was clear parts were damaged. Which makes this item unusable.

what exactly would you be discussing with the courier?
the courier doesnt handle any claims or complaints

    Well have a guess?

    Here's some clues:

Damage that can be seen to the outer wrapping
Damage that can be seen to the packaging
Damage that can be seen to the inner parcel
The contents of said package can be accessed
Was the item in this condition when you collected it

    etc etc

Not having any 1st hand experience of courier and postal operations I'm not sure on what job requirements are. However I would expect the person(s) delivering the package to have some duty of care to prevent damage occuring?

There are Laws re damage to property together with transfer of malice.

    deary me
so do you think the courier at your door drove to where you ordered the item from
then drove back to your house?
or do you think it may go through many handling stages
which laws do you feel are applicable in this case?
