Well, they say they won't as the courier has tried to deliver today already.
I've emailed them to try another approach from phoning.

Call them again and ask to supervisor. Don't accept, "they are all in a meeting," nonsense either. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I've had a few people mess me around with many things when i've phoned companies before. I worked in 2 call centres and like any job, you get the bad eggs who don't do their job properly (and had to deal with irate customers who've been told a load of rubbish)
I shall call them again upon my return and see what they say and ask for a supervisor if need be. I should have phoned again after I did and hoped to speak to someone else.0 -

They shouldn't deliver Sundays, but sometimes they do!0 -

What a pain! Certainly sounds like it could have been the courier as the tracking updated after the knock - and yes, they should have left a card. I can't understand why the courier would have only waited a short while though - it will cost them more to have to return another day.
As Flyboy says, Hermes can contact the courier - and often do, to the point of utter distraction...
If you search for Hermes on saynoto0870.com you can get the phone numbers for the depots (not sure what number you were trying).0 -

That's what I thought about it costing them more to come back. Unless they want to keep my parcel. No card either which is odd. I can only assume it was the courier with the timings appearing on the tracking.
I phoned again (flyboy posted the 0870 earlier, thanks for reposting it though) and the person was a little more helpful. They will contact the courier tomorrow morning (Tuesday) and ask for them to come tomorrow and wait longer at the door. I said I would wait until Midday at least before I have to go out and do other things.
