Really?
Well, can you give instructions as to exactly how you get that option on a Hermes HHT then, because there are 7500 couriers out there that would be interested to know!
There is no option to "Deliver to Customer" as you claim there is, which is why the courier selected "Safe Place". (The customer's hand being a "safe place"). The only option for Customer as such, is the signature one. Many couriers only use this when it's specifically requested as it takes longer and couriers are rarely paid for them. Some couriers will write something in the siggie box to indicate the parcel was handed to customer (esp if the customer is unable to sign) but then you run the risk of some pedant moaning that a parcel was signed for but it wasn't them!
Maybe, before you make sweeping sarcastic generalisations and assumptions and state them as fact (when they aren't) you ought to check your facts!
I seem to remember it was you that announced that Hermes lorry drivers do not deliver on Sundays. You got that one wrong too. :rotfl:0 -

Ermmmm you did say you are an EX-Hermes courier, right? My partner is a CURRENT Hermes courier so I think I do know what I'm talking about and things can and do change!
I can assure you "Delivered to CUSTOMER" is an option on the HHT, and no, I have never known a depot driver deliver goods to a courier on a Sunday from our depot.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

So if "Delivered to Customer" is an option on the HHT, would you like to explain the exact steps to be able to do this without having to either provide a sig, or write in the siggie box?
Ex Hermes courier maybe, but that's a whole step further than someone who's never been one. Also I am in touch with many current Hermes couriers on the Courier Support Forum that I co-run mainly for Hermes couriers, but we have other types of lifestyle couriers too. That's why I'm a little better informed than you seem to be
I'm constantly updated about depots all over the country, not just one as you seem to be.0 -

You have absolutely no idea what my level of involvement is in the business LOL And yes, it does require a signature which the courier did not request if you read the OPs post!“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

Last week, they attempted delivery of my ASOS parcel three times. Only the last time did they leave a card, so I rang up the number and left a message stating I would be at work this week on Mon and Tue but I would be in on Wed and Thu.
However, it appears they had completely ignored my message and attempted redelivery On Monday and Tuesday anyway, despite me clearly stating they should not waste their time in doing so!
I emailed ASOS, who forwarded me a reply off Hermes:
"The courier has attempted to deliver this parcel 5 times already, the couriers only have to attempt delivery 3 times before they send the parcel back, we need an alternative delivery address where the parcel can be delivered or confirmation that the customer is definitely going to be in for the next delivery."
This really peeved me off, don't they understand that most people are at work/uni/college/etc during their delivery hours?!
I really don't get how they attempt redelivery without leaving a card (they only left a card once in the five attempts they made) and asking the customer what days suit them... surely this would work better as they're not wasting their time?
I'm not really sure what to do now... complain to ASOS or Trading Standards or something?
How much more are you prepared to pay for a delivery at seven o'clock in the evening?
What would you hope trading standards to do for you.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I don't have a safe place or neighbour to leave the parcel with because I live in a rough terraced street where I don't have a back gate or nice neighbours who would be willing to take in my parcel. Ohter family members or friends who live in surrounding areas also work 9-5 so that wouldn't work either.
I am just confused why they don't have a system where you can say when is a suitable time for redelivery, I can understand why they attempted the first few times, but the last two times I did tell them not to bother on those days. I took time off work to wait on today as I thought the message was clear enough, but obviously not.
If you order something to be delivered, it is your responsibility to ensure that that delivery can be concluded. I don't understand why someone would attempt to deliver something to you as many as five times when they don't get paid for it, it doesn't make any sense at all. What times of the day do you suggest that the couriers work until? And I don't plan to take the guy himself to trading standards, I don't even know his name, but I feel the company itself and the way it trades is rather secretive and strange.
What secrets have they been keeping from you?The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Still don't have my parcel
Last thing on the tracking
Date Time Status

I'm not expecting them here tonight
Contacted Top Man again (company purchasing from) and they are now contacting Hermes to see what the problem is.The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
I did wonder with "Delivered to Secure Location" as I don't have a 'safe place' but as it's my first experience with Hermes, I wasn't sure if that was the norm for a delivered parcel or whether it should have said 'customer'.
Good news is that I can go shopping with g/f nowThe greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
Do not order through any one that uses this company!
Or if you do request Royal Mail delivery or similar!! I ordered a christmas gift from play.com on the 21st november 2010.
I have never received my order, a delivery note through my door and hermes.com does not recognise my tracking ID. I have been sent several replacements out and have not received anything!
I am now trying to get a refund so I can order the same item from amazon (they use royal mail).
I have called hermes directly and was told by some woman "we do not talk to customers, goodbye". (cheeky and rude)
I do not agree with the way this company is ran and will not be ordering from play.com until they start delivering through someone more reliable. Two months is just too long to wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for listening to my rant!0 -
Oh - so it wasn't just me having problems with Hermes?
Several times ...
Once waited all day, called in the evening, was told "there is info here that the courier left a note for you, through your door, it even says BLACK door". Yeah rite only I do not have black door, I live in a falt and the only way for the courier to get in is to buzz the intercom and then I would have signed for it as I was at home all day.
The Wallis delivery took 3 weeks - every day "on the van for delivery" on their website.. sigh.....
Terrible, terrible service.0
