  • Reading this thread has just given me a taste of what i'm in for. I'm expecting two parcels from Next that were ordered 10 days ago from Next. I was told to expect the delivery last Friday and was pleasently suprised when 4 days early (on Tuesday) I had an e-mail to say my order has been delivered and has been left in my porch. I don't have a porch but thought it would have been left on the step. I got home and nothing was there.

For the last 3 days i've been phoning Next to explain what's happened, been told they'll get the courier firm to ring me. Nothing happens so 24 hours later I ring again and have been told the same. Now they've told me that they've re ordered my item because it's not arrived and I can just see the same thing happening again. According to the tracking info the item is with the delivery firm and been delivered but as it requires a signature it shouldn't have been left anyway.

This is my first experience of this firm and from asking around at work everyone seems to have this problem with them. Just after christmas I ordered clothes from Burton and the tracking was fantastic, it was delivered when they said it would be and although I wasn't in for the second package I was told they'd leave it for me and I could collect it. I work in the same town as the wherehouses and collecting is actually easier for me. Every other company i've dealt with will attempt delivery and then put it to one side so I can collect. I've also had an e-mail from Next to say that my second order is now in stock and will be delivered this week......somehow I doubt that but i'll make my daily phone call to Next tomorrow and see what happens this time.

This certainly is a bit odd, because from my, albeit limited, experience, if a signature is required, it is not possible for the courier to "leave it on the porch," as there is no option to do so on their terminals.

The difference between the delivery process for Burton and Next is simply down to cost. How much extra are you prepared to pay for you item from Next, to match the service from Burton?

Actually Next are already more expensive and Burton were out of a simmilar item which is why I used Next.

The same has happened again with part 2 of the order. An e-mail popped up 10 minutes ago saying it's been delivered and left in my shed, I don't have a shed and have been in all morning.

Next have now just lost me as a customer. When I ordered with them i'd assumed that the experience would be simmilar to Burton but this is not the case. For all the good it'll do i'll write to them to explain why they've lost me as a customer.

Yes there is, the courier simply writes "left in porch" in the signature box!

Next actually charge more for delivery than Burton!!

  • I used this hermes delivery company also, i sent a sewing machine along with threads 15 days later (too late for a part loss claim) all that my customer received was the threads, the delivery guy is probably making extra money reselling my machine now  never use these guys....................

Sorry I missed this one earlier, there is also no option to transfer that to the tracking.

Then that is something, which you as customer, need to discuss with Burton. They may charge less, but they pay more.

  • Yep all sounds very famliar still ! This being 2 years later they seem to be at it again ! Courier drivers who say they have delivered but needed a signature yet only to find out they have NOT tried to deliver at all. No calling card left. So what is happening to all the goods that are NOT being delivered and WHY hasnt someone looked into HERMES after 2 years down the line? EBAY sellers - Beware of using this company to deliver your goods - Cheap isnt always best.
  • Hermes actually say on their website that if no one is at home then deliveries can be left anywhere requested by the accepting party. As long as you leave your signature then it shouldnt be a problem. The only problem arises is when a delivery driver tries to kid the Company that he has tried to deliver when clearly he couldnt be bothered for whatever reason of his own !
  • ..and its still going on in 2011 !!!! Why hasn't any business got wise to this Company ???

What would be the benefit to a driver to do this?
