Problem with Hermes Delivery Services

Seeing as you can't answer the question, let's assume that would take twenty minutes. At forty-five pence, would you do it for one pound an hour (taking expenses into account).
I wasn't getting the thrust of your question, but yes you are right it wouldn't be as quick as parking outside someones door step. Pretty aweful really if you live in a tower block, or slightly off the beaten track.
I do sympathise with the couriers having learned more about thier work conditions, you're right it may well not be worth it for them. Maybe my parcel will fall into the hands of a courier who shops locally.

Ah ha! But if UPS, DHL, Royal Mail, CityLink so on, etc etc can get here no sweat, how was I to know the Hermes couldn't cope? There is no access problem for pretty much every other courier so why should I expect an access problem for them? I know now thanks to you all, but it was mighty unexpected.
I mean, what next? Searching reports on play.com's parcel packaging methods incase they have a high chance of breakage in transit.... hhmm actually that might just be a good idea. Any one got any info that?

The Royal Mail have a universal service obligation, so it wouldn't matter if you live on the top of Ben Nevis, you will still pay the same. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
They get paid more. If you want to pay more for your deliveries from Hermes, then ask the retailer to charge you more, or give the Hermes courier a tip.

agreed.you cant compare RM to couriers, and to an extent you cant compare Hermes to couriers.
they have a totally different delivery model(and pricing structure) than other couriers0 -

Believe me I would pay more, I regularly do. Play.com doesn't have other delivery options though.

If the courier does this, then the courier who delivers it won't get paid.
The usual procedure would to be to green card it, which means it gets sent back to the main depot and it should be rerouted.
Problem is, half the time the green card reasons aren't read or adhered to and they are just sent back to the wrong courier time and again. Makes you wonder if any of the actual employees of Hermes can actually read English.
there's options on the terminal if courier A passes a parcel to courier B ( who has to scan and accept the parcel on their terminal) so only the courier who makes the delivery gets paid - in this case courier B0 -

That's assuming the 2 couriers see and work closely to each other.
If someone works several miles from where they live, the parcel could be handled by 2 couriers who have never met.
Thank you for the info though I hadn't thought of that0 -

Either that, or he is a lazy git and didn't bother at all.

A bit strange - looks like it's taken Hermes 5 days to get it from the main depot in courier's area to the courier and they've dropped it today. Couriers aren't supposed to be pestered by Hermes on a Sunday and they won't be out delivering it today (well, unlikely) so hopefully it should show up tomorrow0
