I can only reiterate that all those with lost parcels do need to contact the company they ordered from in the first instance.

As for the person who has sent an ebay sale - Hermes do offer an insured service, but it's staggered. If you paid no extra than the basic rate then you will have had a parcel insured up to about £25. I think the next level is £100. It's made clear when you follow their system for booking a collection, so if you ignored this then I have to agree you have yourself to blame. Royal Mail seems cheaper for an insured service (or was last time I compared them). As Hermes' couriers are not employees their personal details will not be given out to you.
Sorry Lotte, I have take issue with you there. If the parcel has gone missing, it is not the senders fault, it is the person who caused it to goo missing. Yes, the sender would probably have been better off sending it insured, but ultimately the sender did not make it go missing.

Flyboy, I'm not absolving Hermes of the blame of losing the parcel, I'm saying that the sender has a responsibility to themselves and their customer to ensure that the parcel is insured - and so if they end up out of pocket, then they only have themselves to blame. Sorry if I'm not making myself very clear ;)
  • This company is useless, or more specifically my delivery driver!!! So much so i avoid buying items from companies that i know use them! I have had instance where parcels have been delivered (calling card says they are in the back garden) but no sign of any parcel, items ruined when they have been thrown in my back garden, midst digging up to deck the garden. I have spoken to the delivery driver and requested that he doesn't throw anything in the back garden... and on the one instance when he took the parcel home to redeliver another day i was told rudely that i would have to wait until Saturday, as he only delivers weekday mornings (whilst I'm at work), and it'd have to be first thing (8am) or not at all.

I get home today to find another parcel thrown over my fence...a 44 piece canteen...straight onto the decking, right beside my pet rabbit. What sort or person thinks its okay to thrown a heavy, rattly parcel over a fence! i am fuming! the decking is marked, my bunny seems alright, but must been been an almighty shock.

I have tried endless number and have had no luck speaking to anyone. I have filled out the contact us section on their website, so i'll see if that gets a response.

Sorry, but none of this makes sense. How can he deliver on a Saturday if he only works weekdays? It is not Hermes's fault if you are not there. You should make arrangements to have either someone else take the parcel or have a designated place for deliveries to be left. It is not the drivers fault you are having work done in your garden. Seeing as special arrangements were suggested to you I can't see your problem.

And to restrict your purchasing to companies who don't use Hermes is illogical, you won't get much shopping done and it won't be much different to most other couriers.

Come on, Really???? First of all the driver has no idea what was in the parcel and secondly; really, if you can't be bothered to make alternate arrangements and complain when you don't get your parcels delivered, what choice has the driver?

Why didn't you call the number on the calling card?

  • That's what he told me, he only works weekdays, hence why he'd have to deliver it at 8am Saturday morning. All other delivery companies can usually redeliver at a convenient time or i visit the depot to pick them up, no other delivery company just leaves parcels without first seeking permission!

I personally do not see why choosing not to use companies online is illogical, I'm just fed up with their service. I'd prefer to either go to the shop myself or go to a different company.

Whilst the driver wouldn't know what was in the parcel, from the weight, he'd know it wasn't something suitable to throw over a 6 ft fence.

Funnily enough i did call the number on the calling card, this is just a recorded message, the other number is the delivery drivers.
  • You have asked him not to throw items over the fence but you have not given him an alternative place to leave the parcel.

If he doesn't work weekends, he is making a special trip just for you, knowing that you will be in so that you get your parcel.
Sounds commendable to me, as he will be out of pocket.

Not bad service for forty-five pence.

Looks as though I may have an issue with Hermes too.

I've been in all morning and the updated status on their website says

    Date Time Status

    14/01/2011 11:43 Courier to Re-attempt

I heard no knock at the door and my hearing is fine. No card has been left. How annoying.

That's very odd. The courier doesn't upload his terminal until the end of the day.
