Yeah I thought that as we'd love to do a similar thing, but then I looked at Thomas Cook (or was it Thompsons, argh they confuse me!) and apparently with them it's 21.

Oooh, really?! Although it doesn't really change much now as we can't go till next year, but just in case we win the lottery this weekend it's good to know I can drive over there! Although the idea of driving on the wrong side of the road scares me!

Lol that's oddly cheering, we couldn't rent those campers as both NIM and I are too young!

I can't find the age limit on the Isle of Wright one, but I'm hoping OH is old enough for it! (never thought I'd every have to say.. type?.. that!)

Your weekend sounds lovely Birdie! My Friday night will be spent with OH eating tangy cheese doritos with some Corona Extra if I can find it! Very er, classy :D Trying to have a veery low spend weekend.

Fly drive holidays look fun! I've watched far too many motel/roadtrip horror movies so I think I'd be too scared to go myself.

I need to go to the bank today to put in a check, think I might stick my head through Thompsons door and ask them about the age limit on their fly-drives. They go pretty cheap towards the end of the year, although NIM is only going to be getting 20 days holiday a year (a scary ammount to me who gets 44!) so I don't think we'll be able to do 2 x 2 week trips away a year. Given the amount of time he'll want to spend going to Ireland I'll be lucky to get one big holiday a year. Boo!

20 days is still four weeks, but I guess the odd day going to Ireland will really eat into that you're right. And I bet he won't get flexi at the call centre either!

You're so lucky getting 44 days, you must really struggle to use them up surely? OH gets 35 I think and he never manages!

44 days holiday? Gah, I'm so jealous! Fancy flinging a few of those days my way?!
Cinny, your Friday night sounds nice! Sometimes you can't beat Doritos and Mexican Cerveza (or Beer since we're not actually in 'Mehico'!) OH is scared of the Far East for the same reason you're scared of American road trips, too many movies making it look bad and scary!

    Morning all

Wow, 44 days is amazing! You must always be on holiday :) I'd love to do a road trip across the States - definitely the influence of all those movies, and yes, we'd have to stay in those creepy motels in the middle of nowhere too! The advantage of having an OH the wrong side of 30 is that he's good at driving in all these places. I'm always a bit scared of driving on the wrong side of the road even though (at 27) I'm certainly old enough! I think the age you can rent cars varies a lot but you just have to be careful they don't whack the prices up too much for under 25s.

ETA Hope you don't feel so old now Tete, now you know there's an elderly couple in your midst! Cripes just realised OH is 32 in a couple of weeks, but definitely doesn't act it!

Exactly, in France a couple of years ago me and the girls hired a car and it was cheaper for me at 25, 2 months after passing my test, to be the driver than for my 24 year old friend who had been driving for 7 years, madness! I still didn't drive though, was far too scared in those days and it was a big people carrier thing!

I'm 27 too and OH is 29, he's very good at driving abroad by all accounts and will drive anything, he just loves getting in and having a go, I'm much too jittery for that! He's on board for a VW holiday on the Isle of Wight BTW, took no convincing whatsoever! :T

44 days is including the 12 days flexi mind, but it's still great! Got my 5 years service bonus this year which was an extra 5 days holiday a year. Honestly, I could be on holiday all the time and be happy, so no, I really don't struggle to use it up! Planning on having a nice solid 2 weeks off for Christmas this year.
