Tete Tete! The details of the dressmaking course have come out!

Eek, can't believe I'm going to say this but, yeah shall we do it?! I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it but when I googled it, it says something in the prospectus thing about if fees are over £200 you can pay by 6-monthly standing order? So it's like £34 a month? Eek, what am I letting myself in for?!?! The most I've ever made is a quited placemat at school and it wasn't even very good!!! So what else do you know about it? Eeek, what will we make??? We'll have to be nice and slim by then!! Eek! Feel a bit giddy at the prospect, sorry :o :j

Oh and Wenz, I totally empathise - we were at OH's nephew's christening the other week and after the church bit we just sort of ran out and disappeared (at HIS insistance, I would have quite liked to go to the after-thing and get to know his sisters a bit more), I think the family were pretty annoyed and I hope they don't think it was me whisking him away!!

I think we should go for it, I'm feeling a bit giddy myself, but its not a HUGE ammount of money if we get to the end of the course and all we've made is another placemat to match your one from school! If it makes you feel better at school I made a Christmas stocking and actually managed to sew my hand into it. We can always share lifts there and back too making it the price of what, a couple of glasses of wine, and we get a skill out of it?!

I hope that wasn't as painful as it sounds!! So do we enrol online? I guess they provide sewing machines and we'll need our own for homework? Grandma gave me one a few weeks ago but I haven't actually opened it to have a look yet :o It's quite old but a Singer and I think they're a good brand?! Do you think we can choose what we make? What will you make? I might make a skirt!!! Do you think I could make a dress even?! :j

Well I emailed and asked a few weeks ago and she said all equipment ie sewing machines was provided, but we needed to bring our own tape, pins etc. Aye I think Singer are very good. My ex's mum got me a new (Janone? Is that a yoghurt?) I've never used, would be good to learn! I'd imagine the first term or so we make what we're told, then can start to get a bit different once we're trusted not to cause bodily harm.

It wasn't that painful as only the skin on the end of my fingers and some of my nails actually was sewn into it - my hand was just trapped!

Aye I think there is an online enrollment, might as well do it that way. Exciting stuff!

Oooh, that sounds so exciting! I'm quite jealous, I'd love to be able to make my own clothes (or placemats...) like a *real* Mum should!
I've been looking at the local courses available and there's an Intermediate French class... I don't know if this'll be suitable for me or not. I got an A Level in French... 6 years ago... and I haven't used it much since but it tends to come back quite quickly if I think about it... so do you think I'll be too advanced for Intermediate? Or not advanced enough?! Eek! I want to do an OU course but not really confident enough to go straight into it so I like the idea of evening classes to brush up before taking it to that next step. I just don't know what to do!

How long and how much is the course Birdie? I would email the tutor and ask what level it is actually at and tell them your experience. What OU course do you want to do? My ex did one and the first year was insanely easy, approx AS-level to GCSE level.

It's 15 weeks for £112.50. I want to do OU French (since I wasn't too pleased with my A Level - C), kind of to prove that I can still do it and that I can do better than I did when I was at college, but this one's the next step up! I was looking at a course a while ago and it involves a week in France which sounds quite good. I think I will e-mail the tutor to ask what it will involve.

Birdie, I think beginner classes are very very basic, so Intermediate may be too basic having done A-level - I thought A-level French was really hard, we did subjunctive tense and everything - is there an advanced level? I'm sure you'll soon get up to speed, watch a few French DVDs before you start! OH and I are looking for a beginners' Italian for the new year (once his degree is over), but I think with Degree-level Spanish it might be a bit simplistic for me. Still though, means I can be teacher's pet :D

Hmm, OK so pins, what about material? I guess the first class will tell us everything we need to know. I don't even know how to thread a sewing machine!

She didn't say about material, I can't thread one either, beginners is definitely the right level for us!
