Count yourself lucky, I'm desperate to do fun arty courses and the only thing in my area is garden design (I've got no garden!) and watercolours for pleasure in the mid afternoon! If I travel to Pateley Bridge which is about 30 mins away I can do a jewellery course... it starts in January so I think I'll see if I still want to do it then and if i can be bothered with the trip! The closest thing to a sewing course is a one day Sewing for Men course to teach guys to attach buttons and mend tears!
That really is rubbish! I'm really lucky in that we are between several colleges, Stockton is about 10 mins away, Darlington about 15, Middlesbrough about 20, Bishop Auckland about 25mins, and Redcar about 40mins, so lots of choice there. NIM is struggling though as all the building trades ones are one day a week rather than evenings, unless you do the very basic home DIY ones which are at the level of 'fitting a tap washer and hanging a radiator!' - don't really need a course for that!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

It does suck Dinah! You'd think that Harrogate would have loads of good stuff on since it has 3 or 4 colleges but it's all about the computers and no fun art courses! I even saw one for Facebook and other Social Networking!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0

he'd prefer plumbing or electrics.
Would he be getting a proper degree in it? Or just basics so he can do the bits for your renovations? Sounds like a good course though, my Brother did a plumbing one (well, obv, he's a plumber) but he said it was always really fun.
Mmm, half price Oreos! Really wont do my diet any good so I best stay away!
Blimey to your baking haul Tete! Sounds like you made some scrummy bits though, looking forward to your weekend in York?
Managed to find a dress + shoes for tonight! Saved myself about £50 I think. Need to take the straps in abit but it won't take me 10 minutes, then it's a matter of DIY facepacks, mani-pedis and general preening. It's so hard being a girl!
There's a craft shop in town that does courses so I might look into doing some! Just to get away from the stress at home for a few hours a week would be nice :rolleyes:0 -
Could NIM not arrange to have a day in the week off and work Saturdays maybe whilst he does the course? Don't know if his place is open Sats or what. Are those courses aimed at people already in that area (work-wise) so their managers are happy to give them the time off?
Poor Birdie, you are in the middle of nowhere a bit aren't you? I may live in a chemical factory but at least it's pretty handy for getting to places!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Nah its an office job so they'd never let him have a day off. He wouldn't be getting a degree, just some sort of city & guilds certificate. Finally managed to get Boros prospectus to open, that's almost as bad as Stockton's offering!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Nothing at that fancy new Middlesbrough College?
Soo excited for the weekend Cinny, my bestest girlies all together, haven't seen them since Feb. Feel sorry for the poor hubby of the one we're staying with, we're always very silly when we get together
Well done on finding a dress to wear, hope you have a lovely afternoon pampering! I was aiming to do that as well as bake last night but didn't have time, did manage to paint over my manky toenails though so that's the main thing. And they no longer look in danger of falling off!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
Tete I found another one at the fancy new college: http://www.mbro.ac.uk/coursesearch/coursedisplay.aspx?CourseInformationID=1938
Shorter course but obviously also a fair bit cheaper and closer to home. Don't know which would be better!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

Morning everyone,
Dinner was nice last night, although was a massive rush as table was booked for 6 and OH and I didn't make it till about twenty past. I had cauliflour cheese soup and then sausage and sage and onion mash. Was a nice restaurant by tower bridge so we were watching the bridge go up and down for the boats.
OHs mum text me last night which was nice and she said would be nice to see her this weekend. Turns out his sisters birthday bbq is next weekend. Also the poor girl was finished with by her bf on her 16th birthday. Think she had a good day apart from that.
I have got a week off work after today yay so starting to go into slowdown mode.
All these courses sound like a good idea! I might start looking into if there is something interesting I could do.0 -
Mmmm, meal sounds lovely Wendz, I'm hungry!
Is that course much shorter Dinah? It still goes on til June! Obviously I'd prefer Middlesbrough it's loads closer and I could go straight from work if it starts at 6. What do you reckon?Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
7 weeks shorter. I've emailed the tutor to ask if its suitable for complete and utter beginners or if you need to be able to use a machine. If its for all abilities (bearing in mind this is level 1, there is a level 2 course available also) then I agree, I think this one is more practical (and cheaper!).Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
