It's really a matter of preference, but the osscillating/pulsating action of the Braun is a much better tooth cleaning action than any ultrasonic, which are a bit gimmicky really.

Thanks to Moomin_White, I am now aware that the Braun 8500 is as good a action as any of the dearer Braun brushes. A Braun 8500 can now be bought for 20 quid or less.

Toothsmith : I ve been reading this thread with fascination....

In a one sentence summary if you had to buy over the counter teeth whitenin what woul it and where would you get it from.

I've tried the Dr George with 'warm to form' trays. 30 mins 3x daily.
Certain teeth felt sensitive once or twice but not too bad most of the time. Saw a little difference only about 2 shades after a month or so and I lost interest. Overall hardly worth 90 mins per day. (In my opinion)
Crest white strips 7 day, 30 mins 2x daily.
Certain teeth were unbearably sensitive during certain treatments, and could continue throughout the day. But I did see a difference after a few days, about 2/3 shades. I didnt continue cos of the pain!!!
However there are some really good threads on here already, with useful and professinal advice have a browse through (I have) Theres alot!! Good Luck

Also bicarb is great for whitening teeth

I wouldn't! Unless you mean an at home kit from my regular dentist once he/she had properly assessed me for suitability.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Hi, I have just completed 2 weeks of the "Enlighten" product with my dentist. When it was completed it looked fantastic, yet within 3 days my top front 2 teeth started to darken at the bottom, which after a few more days appears to be rising. I will be phoning the dentist about this tomorrow, as I feel the blotchiness (which wasn't there once the treatment was completed) looks awful. The question I have is, do the teeth take time to settle after treatment? Many thanks in advance.

PS I don't drink tea, coffee or coke and don't smoke.

    Hehe :)

If you had too ... :)

Basically going the dentist route is pretty much out the question till at least christmas and I want to do something in the meantime

I was going to try ebay but then I thought no no no.

    I came across this
    http://www.colgate.com/app/Colgate/US/OC/Products/Whitening/ColgateVisibleWhite.cvsp

Colgate Visible White - Good brand from dentist.net

    What do you think toothsmith?

The point is you DON'T have to!!!!!!!!!!!!

The stuff you linked to says 'only available through dental offices.........That's for a good reason.

If there's somewhere in the States that sells it directly to the public, then you may as well buy it on Ebay as there. There will be no guarantees that it is a genuine product from a Kosher source. You'll be taking pot luck.

Christmas is 8 months away. Is it really worth risking your teeth?

Sorry Toothsmith I know this has probably been done before but I cant find it.

What is the best method of teeth whitening in your opinion. Zoom whitening or home whitening kit? (one prepared by the dentist of course;)) Would you advise to get office whitening and then getting a top up kit?

Zoom and the like are good for instant 'wow', but to keep the effect, then it needs home back-up.

If you have more time, the home whitening is dependable, very few side effects (You can stop for a while if things get sensitive), and it lasts well.

It's cheaper to just do the home whitening on it's own without the Zoom/Britesmile
