Advice on Teeth Whitening Discussion Thread

Personally I wouldn't be happy in buying the bleach off E-bay.
If you are going to pay your dentist to have the trays made professionally for you, then go the whole hog and buy the stuff from him also.
Then, if you have any problems, you can visit your dentist and have them sorted out.
I think I can 'feel' Toothsmith wincing from here.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
well i did actually think £300 was a pretty decent price - i just wondered if it seemed as rude as it sounded to get just the trays tbh
i do like the fact that you do get some guarantee if you use your dentist - however that was one thing i forgot to ask him - will check with him before i go ahead
was just interested in others opinions and experiences:j MFi3 wannabee :j

There is another thread all about tooth whitening, although most of those queries are about the beauty salons that are offering whitening, rather than a dentist treatment.
I have no idea of prices, but at least you will get a product that is suitable for you.
I've bought face cream off e-bay, from a regular seller and I'm convinced it was a fake. It was nothing like the stuff I buy from Boots and it was a waste of money as I binned it in the end.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Please don't EVER buy whitening gel off of ebay.
I had 15% carbamide peroxide gel from my dentist that worked very well, then I saw some stronger gel on ebay and thought I'd have a go at that to see if I could get my teeth ever whiter, what a big mistake.
I put the gel very carefully into the trays and popped them in, within minutes my gums and then whole mouth started burning and swelling up, luckily I was able to rush to the kitchen sink quickly and wash it all out. I was in shock at the speed that I had the reaction.
When I started thinking about it I realised that anything could have been in those syringes, they could have been made by teenagers in their bedroom having a laugh or by a real nutter out to hurt people.
It's just not worth taking that risk with your health or teeth!:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -

£300 is a good price.
Go for that! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Don't know if anyone can help with this one but here goes!
I have two veneers and three crowns, all of which have discoloured. Looks a bit weird 'cos my own teeth are really quite white so, the difference is obvious. Both the veneers are over my two front teeth and one is noticeably darker than the one next to it! (Must be all the red wine! lol)
Does anyone know of any MSE ways of restoring their original shade? I've been told that cosmetic whitening is useless on crowns etc (plus it's blummin' expensive).
I've had the crowns etc for around 15 years now so maybe it's just old age!
Any ideas/suggestions kind peeps?'The only thing that helps me keep my slender grip on reality is the friendship I have with my collection of singing potatoes'

See your dentist and get his opinion if they are front teeth you should have a smile assessment and cosmetic review.Change them for new crowns and veneers the average life of a crown is 7 years for NHS .When the veneers are fitted if the dentist uses Rubber Dam the result will be better/Any contamination of the fitting surface will lead to staining later on.0
