Thanks domdent. So are you saying that the only way around it is to have new veneers etc? Isn't that going to cost a lot of cash? I heard that one veneer can cost around a thousand pounds!

I charge £330 per veneer if there are alot of assessment appointmentsWe will work on time + lab cost for big casesIf you are having multiple crowns/veneers done it is better to have them done as 1 treatment as during fabrication porcelain varies in shade on a daily basis with changes in air moisture. The smile analysis should address your existing shade of your natural teeth do you want them lighter etc big mistake putting new crowns on if the patient comes back 6 months later and wants whiter teeth. Buccal corridor.Golden triangle.etc.etc.I reckon an hour consultation study models, xray`s and pictures.1/2 hour review before treatment deciscion

    Thanks for your advice !

What are Buccal corridor, golden triangle?

I see the sense in having it all done in one sitting, especially if I were to consider whitening as well. Just worried about the cost of replacement veneers and crowns! Well, the whole thing really.

Is it true that once they're discoloured the only way is to replace? From a money saving (read conserving) excercise, I'd prefer to improve rather than replace if at all possible.

I'm 33 years old and visit the dentist every 6 months for a check up and every 3 months for a clean. :j

My teeth tend to get terribly stained. Not the main part of the tooth but around the gum line gets black. The dentist said it was something to do with getting older and staining sticking to calculus - or something like that. It seems worse on one side of mouth than the other.

I clean my teeth twice a day and floss a couple of times a week. I've cut back on tea and coffee and even drink white wine now rather than red.

I was wondering if there is anything else I can do to keep the staining down? Would an electric toothbrush be better than a manual?

I posted this a few months ago. I bought myself a braun electric toothbrush and after 3 months I have virtually no staining - I cant rave enough about it. :j I've got my 3 month clean coming up and I'm sure my dentist will be really surprised how clean they are.

It just goes to show that although I thought I was being really thorough in cleaning my teeth with a manual toothbrush, I obviously wasn't cleaning them well at all.

Try a sonic one next, even better.

I loved my electric toothbrush, but the sonic ones are even better.

It's really a matter of preference, but the osscillating/pulsating action of the Braun is a much better tooth cleaning action than any ultrasonic, which are a bit gimmicky really.

Thanks to Moomin_White, I am now aware that the Braun 8500 is as good a action as any of the dearer Braun brushes. A Braun 8500 can now be bought for 20 quid or less.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • Hi, £300! That seems like loads of money to me!!!! I bought a teeth whitener called Transformulas teeth whiteing system http://www.yesmorenails.com/transformulas-cosmedik-teeth-whitening-system---proffesional-strength-5-p.asp and it worked wonders!!!! You would also save yourself over £280.00. That's a bargain :D

    Oh for goodness sake! :wall:

There are any number of chemicals you can put in a pot that will spectacularly whiten your teeth.

The effect on the strength of the enamel, the health of your gums, the chemistry of any fillings, the bugs in any cavities or gum problems you have can all be highly damaging though.

300 quid isn't the price of the stuff dentists use, it's the professional cost for the supervision, expertise and knowledge.

If you want to just paint any old acid/alkali/bleach all over your teeth, then you may as well use Domestos.

Don't for one minute think that just because something comes in a packet with 'professional' on it, or a picture of nice white teeth, that it is safe. Anything that can change the colour of your teeth HAS to be quite an agressive bit of chemistry.

Only put it anywhere near your teeth if you don't really care about doing permanent damage to them, and have a huge wad of spare money in your bank account to put right any damage it causes.

    Hi All,

Has anyone used the teeth whitening kits before?

    Which ones did you use?

    Were they any good?
