Advice on Teeth Whitening Discussion Thread

Looking at your posts I think actually I was pretty close to your viewpoint with that pic.
Tooth whitening can be a damaging process "whether you like it or not". Who exactly do you think the "client" is going to ask to see to get the work fixed if something DOES go wrong?? Is your friend going to be able to place the appropriate restorations should they be necessary? Apply the appropriate desensitisers, SHE DOES APPLY A DESENSITISER refer on to appropriate advanced services? Can your friend spot who would and wouldnt be suitable for tooth whitening? YES WITH REGARDS TO GUM DISEASE ETC Can your friend spot those with one of the many forms of gum disease for whom tooth whitening would be an excruciating experience due to the exposed dentine? Can your friend clean off the lumps of calculus that would prevent the active ingredients contacting the tooth surface to work (or not)?
I want to use something that I am confident in because personally I dont want to have to deal with an irate patient because their teeth went back to their original colour the day after I shone my light on them!TOTAL RUBBISH AND THAT DOES NOT HAPPEN!
To be honest, If I never did any more whitening ever again, I would be missing out on peanuts in cash terms so its hardly a game breaker for me. AGAIN TOTAL RUBBISH
I am replying here as your comments are not entirely accurate. as I said yesterday, discussion terminated :cool:LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -
No not terminated. You have on an internationally available forum admited that your friend is breaking the law. You can choose to ignore what we tell your or you can not. I have linked you to the british dental registering body. The GDC have said that the items YOU said your friend does are considered to be practicing dentistry which unless she is registered with the GDC is illegal! Simple concept and THAT should be the end of the discussion regardless of if they use something other than peroxide. Also I am not entirely sure if you think you magically look at my accounts or not but I think I am better placed than you to determine if I do a large cash generating amount of whitening or not. How you can say my comments are rubbish on that matter is a little puzzling to me.
There is a lot more than gum disease that is a contra indication to tooth whitening by the way. Having spent 5 years undergrad and more than that post grad I think I Should know.0 -
I dont think you realise that your comments are not actually bothering anyone. There are many many salons up and down the country who are doing teeth whitening and who are doing very very well out of it.
There is not much else to say really. I cannot seem to get my point across and you two seem to just get on your soap boxes!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0 -

So she diagnoses gum disease?
That in itself is 'practice of dentistry'!
I am still waiting for the name of this miracle substance that can now - apparently - whiten teeth by 8-10 shades!??
You've spent lots of effort telling us all what it's NOT.
Does you or your friend actually have any idea what it IS? Because I certainly have no idea what could achieve such miraculous results - especially with no danger whatsoever of having an adverse effect on anything else! (Apart from turning pink when tickled)
How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

You can be as smug as you like and point to as many whitening salons as you like. You may even be doing this to try and some magical last word. Doesnt change that what your friend is doing is the illegal practice of dentistry. A practice that you have implicitly implicated them in. THAT is the point I am making and I dont really care if it is not bothering you or not. I am simply stating a fact.0 -

I didnt say she diagnosis gum disease I said shes know what to look for. you simply are twisting what one is trying to say. I dont have to tell you what it is, all you need to know is that it is not peroxide or dioxide. and yes, shes knows EXACTLY what it is and how to use it. I know what can usually achieve such miraculous results as well.......peroxide!!!:rotfl::rotfl:difference being that stuff is dangerous if used incorrectly, even I know that!!! wouldnt want that in my mouth under any circumstances.

same ole, same ole. how comes all the salons that i know of, are still doing this then? no one seems to be bothered, otherwise surely they would have been reported by now??? you guys (mostly dentists) just dont like it, end of.

Jasper stop it now. It does not matter a JOT what the house of lords said about tooth whitening. The GDC ... the UKs authority on dentistry as a whole consider any attempts to whiten teeth by any means and for any reasons ... dentistry. As a result these attempts MUST be done by a registered practitioner with the GDC.
http://www.gdc-uk.org/Membersofpublic/Illegalpractice/Pages/default.aspx
"The Dentists Act 1984 makes it a criminal offence for a person who is not a registered dentist or a registered dental care professional to practise dentistry, or hold themselves out - whether directly or by implication - as practising or as being prepared to practise dentistry."
and the same link as before that you have ignored
http://www.gdc-uk.org/Dentalprofessionals/Standards/Pages/Tooth-whitening.aspx
Therefore the house of lords can say teeth whitening is a tea party for all they like. It is still dentistry therefore illegal if you arent registered. End of.0 -
It doesnt matter what the GDC say. They are not the law, they are not government.
You can carry on giving people links etc from the GDC, but at the end of the day, it all counts for nowt!
I can understand the GDC's concerns over things like peroxide in the wrong hands, yes I agree.
but other than that, forget it!LBM: April 2009 - honest debt figure: Secured: £0.00!! (paid back april 2017) unsecured: £53117.48 (roughly) back with CCCS starting again:(0
